1 What is Process
Maturity? The definition of process
maturity is how well a company
documents and manages its
business processes. Maturity also
predicts how capable a company
is to continually improve its
processes. Maturity and metrics
provide a way to track process
management.
2 What are Process Maturity Models?
● Gauge how well companies manage processes
● Mark maturity in successive levels
○ Low maturity indicates less control and repeatability in
execution and output,
and functional silos
○ High maturity shows more control,
repeatability, and quality,
and strong cooperation
across teams
3 Capability Maturity Model (CMM)
● Focusses on improving software development processes
● One of the original maturity models from the 1980s
Optimized
● Has five levels:

4 Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI)
● Developed out of CMM to apply consistent measurements across
functions in an organization
● Has five levels: Optimizing
Quantitatively focus on process

5 Process & Enterprise Maturity Model (PEMM)
● First outlined by Dr. Michael Hammer of the Harvard Business School in a
2007 article in the Harvard Business Review
● Has five levels: Optimizing

6 Business Process Maturity Model
(BPMM)
● Find bottlenecks and non-value adding steps in
workflows and promote consistency and repeatability
in business process management.
● A trained consultant is recommended to conduct
assessments
● Many questions involve months of effort
● Offers certification
● May be overwhelming and costly

7 Seven Tenets of Process Management
● Governs process management
● The seven tenets are:

● Articulated by consultants Geary Rummler and Alan Brache
● Uses a simple 10-question assessment
● Assigns scores for Process Management Initiation,
Process Management Evolution,

9 McCormack’s Business Process Orientation Maturity

● Assigns scores for Process Management Initiation,
