Planning
Space Planning refers to the utilization of the space
and on how it is being laid out and planned in order
for the efficient use of the spaces.
It is an essential part of the interior design process.
Certain sites and facilities require a proper
space planning to become more efficient and avoid
hazards. These includes:
• Building Construction
• Light and Ventilation
• Safety and Protection
• Plumbing and Electrical Layout
For Residential Building:
• Space Planning (3 Areas)

• I. Living Area
• II. Service Area
• III. Utility rooms

I. LIVING AREA
• Area where most of the living occurs.
• It is where the family is entertained, relaxes, dines, etc.

Function:

Billiards, chess, board games, etc. Technically same as the
Family room.

5. Porches and Decks
Porches: Covered platform leading to an entrance.
Enclosed by glass, screen or post/railings. Attached
structurally to the ground.

Decks: Elevated porches.

Function:
Additional center for the entrance.

Where it will function best.

6. Patios
Spanish word for courtyard. Placed directly to the ground.

Hawaiian word for Porch. Covered exterior passageway.

For outdoors.

Adjacent to the area they relate. Secluded from the street
