STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

DEFINITION

 Based on the gaps and inconsistencies identified

in the literature review, refine your research
question to a specific, clear, and well-defined
problem statement. Your research questions
should be feasible, relevant, and important to the
field of study.
HYPOTHESIS

 Based on the research question, develop a

hypothesis that states the expected
relationship between variables.
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS

 Clearly defines the scope and limitations of

your research problem. This will help you
focus your study and ensure that your
research objectives are achievable.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

 What does Significance of the Study mean?

The significance of the study is a written statement
that explains why your research was needed. It’s a
justification of the importance of your work and
impact it has on your research field, it’s contribution
to new knowledge and how others will benefit from
it.
WHY IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
IMPORTANT?

 The significance of the study, also known as the

rationale of the study, is important to convey to the
reader why the research work was important
 The statement of the significance of the study is used
by students and researchers in academic writing to
convey the importance of the research performed; this
section is written at the end of the introduction and
should describe the specific contribution made and
who it benefits.
DEFINITION OF TERMS

 In research, the definition of terms is a list of important

words or acronyms that a researcher needs to define. It's
usually an annex to a work, such as a research paper, book,
or pamphlet. It can be located at the beginning or end of the
work.

 The definition of terms should include clear and concise

explanations of key terms, concepts, or variables used in the
study. The purpose is to ensure that readers understand the
specific meanings and contexts of the terms.
The definition of terms should include:
 Ambiguous terms
 Terms used in a special way
 Terms that are not widely known outside of the
discipline
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

 A conceptual framework in research is a visual or written representation that explains the

relationship between variables and their characteristics. It can also outline possible options or
present a preferred approach.
 A conceptual framework can help with:
 Defining a research question
 Finding meaningful answers
 Understanding a research problem
 Guiding the development and analysis of research
 A conceptual framework can be presented in a number of formats, including:
 Flowchart, Mind map, Concept map, Process diagram, Narrative, Graphical, Pictorial.
 A conceptual framework can be based on three sources: Experience, Literature, Theory.
