JOB APPLICATION
LETTER
It is widely known as a
"cover letter". It is used
to introduce yourself to
a prospective employer.
You write this to
demonstrate your interest in
the company, sell your
services and qualifications
in written form, and show
that you are fit for a job
position.
Common Features of
a Job Application
Letter
01
HEADING
The heading contains the return
address with the date on the last
line.

02
INSIDE ADDRESS

recipient's address.
SAMPLE INSIDE ADDRESS

Silliman University, Dumaguete City
03
SALUTATION
Use the same name as the inside
address, including the personal
title.
If you know the person and
typically address them by their
first name, it is acceptable to
use only the first name in the
salutation (for example: Dear
Lucy:).
In all other cases, however, use
the personal title and
last/family name followed by a
colon. Leave one line blank
after the salutation.

Dear Dr. Rivera:
04
BODY
The body is the meat of
your letter.
For block and modified block
letter formats, single space and
left justify each paragraph. Be
sure to leave a blank line
between each paragraph,
however, no matter the format.
Be sure to also skip a line
between the salutation
and the body, as well as
the body and the close.
05
COMPLIMENTARY CLOSE
The complimentary
close is a short and
polite remark that ends
your letter.
The close begins at the
same justification as your
date and one line after the
last body paragraph.
Capitalize the first word
of your closing and leave
four lines for a signature
between the close and the
sender’s name.
A comma should
follow the closing.
