Basic Elements of

Electrical Engineering
Immersive Learning
Introduction
• Elements of Electrical Engineering involves:
1. Resistors,
2. Capacitors,
3. Inductors,
4. Voltage & Current Source.

* Prerequisite : High School Physics concepts.

Introduction
• Basically Resistors, Capacitors & Inductors are Passive elements which
dissipates or absorbs power.
• Resistors, Capacitors & Inductors are Elements Whereas
Resistance ,Inductance & Capacitance are Properties
• For Example: Property to oppose the flow of current is Resistance.
• Unit for Resistance is Ohms (Ω) & symbol is R.
Real Time Example (Application)
• Almost all Digital circuit comprise of these Basic element like a
Resistor , Inductor or Capacitor.
Resistors are used in:
• Circuit functions.
• Dividing voltage.
• Heating.
• Frequency and timing.
• LEDs and transistor.
Capacitors
Capacitors are used in:
1. energy storage,
2. power conditioning,
[Link] noise filtering,
4. remote sensing and signal coupling/decoupling
Inductors
• Choking, blocking,
• attenuating, or filtering/smoothing high frequency noise in
electrical circuits.
• Storing and transferring energy in power converters (dc-dc or
ac-dc)
