SCIENCE

4QUARTER 1 - WEEK
4
DAY 1
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the
learners should be able to
identify changes in the materials
that are useful and harmful to
the environment.
Video Presentation
Note: The video will be recorded prior to the
delivery of the lesson. It is all about the burning of
wastes materials in the dump area.
Cycles of nature are disrupted due to the different
human activities like burning of wastes, dumping
of waste materials in the river, and the like.
Passage Reading
Numerous human activities such as overpopulation,
pollution, the burning of fossil fuels, and deforestation have
an adverse effect on the physical environment. Climate
change, soil erosion, poor air quality, and undrinkable water
have all been brought on by changes like these. These
unfavorable effects may influence human behavior and lead
to large-scale migrations or conflicts over access to clean
water.
The phrase "air pollution" is very general and covers a wide range of
chemicals and airborne particles. These pollutants can originate from
many different places, such as automobiles, factories, power plants, and
even open fires.

Burning fossil fuels, like coal, oil, and natural gas, is the main source
of air pollution. These substances emit dangerous compounds into the
air when they are burned, such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and
sulphur dioxide. Lead, ground-level ozone, and particulate matter, which
are microscopic bits of solids in the air (such soot and dirt), are some
other air pollutants.
These gases and pollutants can harm
people's health in many ways, including
heart disease and a number of respiratory
conditions like asthma, emphysema, and
chronic bronchitis.
1. What can you say of the picture?
2. What makes the area polluted?
3. What happens if the activities will be
done continuously?
Some human activities bring
negative impact or changes in the
environment.
Evaluatio

1. Which of the following materials is generally considered harmful to
the environment?
A) Biodegradable plastics
B) Styrofoam (polystyrene)
C) Paper
D) Glass
2. What is a beneficial change in material use that helps the
environment?
A) Increased use of single-use plastics
B) Replacement of plastic straws with reusable metal ones
C) Higher consumption of disposable batteries

3. Which type of material decomposition benefits the environment?
A) Biodegradable materials breaking down naturally
B) Non-biodegradable materials remaining unchanged for decades
C) Recycling plastics into new products
D) Burning waste materials in open fields
4. Which of these materials is harmful to wildlife and ecosystems?
A) Recycled paper products
B) Lead-based paints
C) Organic cotton fabrics
D) Aluminum cans
5. Which change in material usage contributes positively to reducing
pollution?

Reflection
: this lesson helped you
Has
understand why there is a need to
take care of the environment?

Write your answer on a sheet of

paper.
DAY
2
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the
learners should be able describe
the effects of some materials
could be minimized.
The harmful effects of the
materials in the environment
could be lessened or
minimized.
Passage Reading

Effective implementation of the "Three Rs" (Reduce, Reuse, and

Recycling) campaign is required to encourage improved trash
management. You would be better off donating the old jeans and using
reusable shopping bags rather than turning an old pair of jeans into a
bag that requires constant maintenance. Some initiatives could have a
long learning curve and take practice to become used to.
Although sorting recyclables can be difficult at first, after
you get the feel of the method, the associated tasks will come
naturally to you.
The most important way to reduce waste is to cut back on
how much you buy. The secret is to only buy the things we
actually need, and in the proper quantity. We won't need to
mine raw materials, create items from scratch, create shipping
materials, use more resources to send them, and then figure
out how to get rid of them if we never produce them in the first
place.
Many people find the thought of being wasteful unsettling.
However, the majority of us still waste because we are unable
to come up with a better use for items like last year's phone
book, overly short draperies or a scratched closet door.
Because of our conditioning, we tend to disregard the effects of
our actions when disposing of items that are worn out, broken,
unattractive, or otherwise damaged.
Nature Walk Strategy
This activity would be done prior to the delivery of
instruction to avoid overtime. Let the learners walk
with their classmates and visit the entire premise of
the school if possible. Learners should list materials
that they have seen and identify if it could be reuse,
reduce, and or recycle.
Assessme
nt:
1. Which action helps minimize the environmental impact of plastic waste?
A) Incineration of plastic waste
B) Recycling plastic bottles into new products
C) Dumping plastic waste in oceans
D) Increasing production of single-use plastics
2. How can the environmental impact of paper production be reduced?
A) Clear-cutting forests for paper pulp
B) Using recycled paper products
C) Disposing of paper waste in landfills
D) Increasing paper consumption
3. What is a sustainable practice to minimize the environmental effects of metals
like aluminum?
A) Throwing away aluminum cans after one use
B) Recycling aluminum cans to conserve resources
C) Manufacturing more single-use aluminum products
D) Dumping aluminum waste in rivers
4. Which method helps mitigate the harmful effects of electronic waste (e-waste)?
A) Sending e-waste to developing countries for disposal
B) Recycling electronic devices for valuable metals
C) Burying e-waste in backyard compost piles
D) Burning e-waste in open fields
5. How can the environmental impact of textile production be minimized?
A) Increasing use of synthetic fibers like polyester
B) Encouraging fast fashion trends
C) Opting for organic and sustainable fabrics
D) Disposing of textiles in regular household garbage
Reflection
:
The learners will be asked to answer the listed
question either by class discussion or writing the
answers in their worksheet.

Has this lesson helped you to better

understand why there is a need to reuse,
reduce, and recycle?

The teacher asks questions
to the learners based from
the passage read.
Identify if it could be reuse,
reduce, and or recycle.
True or False
1. Recycling plastic helps reduce the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills
and oceans.
2. Using recycled paper products contributes to conserving forests and reduces the
environmental impact of paper production.
3. Reusing and repurposing electronic devices can help reduce the amount of
electronic waste (e-waste) generated.
4. Composting organic waste helps minimize methane emissions from landfills and
enriches soil health.
5. Opting for energy-efficient appliances and lighting helps reduce energy
consumption and environmental impact.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the
learners should be able to
describe how reactive materials
could endanger human lives and

brownouts?
Why?
Reactive materials could pose danger to
property and on one’s life. The negative
effect of reactive materials could be
minimized and or deterred.
Passage Reading

Reactive materials are typically thought of as

substances that, when exposed to heat, pressure, shock,
friction, a catalyst, or contact with air or water, can
become hazardous on their own. Reactive interactions call
for the blending of two or more substances in order to
create a risky scenario through a chemical reaction.
The teacher presents a video on
