Good

day!
Schuster Aris P. Evangelista
• Can you still remember the
different forms of Electromagnetic
waves you have learned from the
previous lesson?
• While all these EM waves move
through space at the same speed
of about three hundred (300)
million meters per second, their
wavelengths, frequencies, and
energies differ. This is the reason
11/16/2024 PRESENTATION TITLE 2
Let me remind you that
wavelength has an inverse
relation with frequency and
energy. So, if wavelength
increases, what will happen to
the frequency of the wave? If
the wavelength of an EM wave
decreases, what will be the

WAVES
11/16/2024 PRESENTATION TITLE 7
RADIO WAVES
- Proved by Heinrich Hertz in
eighteen eighty’s
- Have the longest wavelength in
EM Spectrum.
- Have a very wide range of
wavelengths.
- The whole region of it is divided
into smaller regions of
wavebands.

RADIO WAVES in a
RADIO/TELEVISION signal
- They are produced by
making “electrons”
vibrate in an antenna.
- They are used to transmit
sound and picture

LOW FREQUENCY WAVES- are
suitable for communication over
great distances. But, the
curvature of the earth limits the
range to about eighty km. To
extend the range, a repeater is
used. The repeater receives the
signal and re-transmits it to the
receiving station.

11/16/2024 PRESENTATION TITLE 12
HIGH FREQUENCY WAVES- can be
reflected by the ionosphere. This
enables the waves to be
transmitted over great distances.

IONOSPHERE
The layer of the
earth's atmosphere
that contains a high
concentration of ions
and free electrons and
is able to reflect radio
waves. It lies above
the mesosphere and
extends from about 50
to 600 miles (80 to
1,000 km) above the

• Medium and high frequency waves are
used for broadcasting by local radio
stations.
• In a radio station, sound is converted
by a microphone into patterns of
electric current variations called
AUDIO-FREQUENCY (AF) signals.
11/16/2024 PRESENTATION TITLE 15
AM
In amplitude modulation, is
use in “standard broadcasting”
because it can be sent over long
distances. (Limited to local
broadcasting)

11/16/2024 PRESENTATION TITLE 16

FM
Very high frequency waves
provide a “higher quality
broadcasting” including stereo
sound. This is called as
“frequency modulation”

11/16/2024 PRESENTATION TITLE 17

NOTE:
• AM radio signals will travel great
distances so a single transmitter
can cover large areas.
• There can’t be too many AM radio
signals in one area as the signals
will overlap one another.
• FM signals are known to offer
better quality than AM.
