Almighty Father, we praise and
thank You for this day.
Watch over us as we go about our
works and studies.
Help us in every ways
so that we may become
the children You want us to be.
Amen.
DAILY AFFIRMATIONS
I believe in myself and in my goals.
No matter how hard it is, I can do it.
Obstacles help me grow and learn.
Today, I am going to be my best self.

SEISMIC WAVES
Earthquake is a vibration of the Earth produced
by the rapid release of energy.
Seismic waves are all the
waves of energy caused
by the sudden breaking
of rock within the earth.
TYPES OF
SEISMIC WAVES
Body Waves Surface Waves
TYPES OF SEISMIC WAVES
BODY WAVES
These are very fast seismic waves that move through or
inside the earth. They are considered as the most
damaging type of seismic waves and are classified into
two – the compression waves and the shear waves.
TYPES OF BODY WAVES
PRIMARY WAVES
also known as Compression Waves or Longitudinal
Waves.
The fastest kind of seismic wave and the
first to arrive at a seismic station. They can
travel through solids, liquids, and gases.
TYPES OF BODY WAVES
SECONDARY WAVES
also known as Shear Waves or
Transverse Waves
This is the second wave you feel during an
earthquake. This is slower than a P-wave
and can only travel through solid rock.
TYPES OF SEISMIC WAVES
SURFACE WAVES
These are very slow, long waves that move along the
surface of Earth. They produce rocking movements that
cause only little damage on structures. The Love wave
and the Rayleigh wave are considered as types of surface
waves.
WHAT CAN YOU OBSERVE FROM THIS PICTURE?
Seismic waves particularly
the S- waves disappear as the
waves reach the core.
The idea that the S-waves
cannot travel through any
liquid medium led
Seismologists to conclude
that the outer core is liquid.

5. How does secondary seismic waves move?
It moves side to side as the wave
travels backward.
It moves horizontally as the wave
travels forward.
It moves vertically as the wave
travels backward.
It moves in perpendicular direction
and moves in up and down or side to
side as the wave travels forward.
Waves are inspiring not just because they rise and
fall, but because each time they fall they never fail to
rise again.
