Introduction
In this presentation, we will delve into the fundamental
concepts of vector spaces and subspaces. We will
explore how these mathematical structures provide a
powerful framework for understanding and
representing a wide range of phenomena in diverse
fields. Prepare to embark on a journey through the
fascinating world of linear algebra!
Defining Vector Spaces

Definition
A non-empty set ‘V’ is said to be a real vector space if there
are two binary operations are defined on ‘V’.

I. Addition(+) is defined on V for any u , v ∈ V => u + v ∈ V.

II. Scalar Multiplication(.) is defined on V for any α ∈ R and v ∈
V => α.v ∈ V.
PROPERTIES:
There are totally 8 properties of vector space,
Commutative
Associative
Identity
Inverse
Distributive
(a + b) . c = a . b + b . c
[a . (b . c) = b . (a . c) =
(a . b) . c]
1 . a = a
Examples of Vector Spaces

Rn(Euclidean Space)
The set of all n-tuples of real
numbers, commonly used in
geometry and linear algebra.
Function Spaces
The set of all functions from a
set S to a field F, often used in
analysis and differential
equations.
Polynomial Spaces
The set of all polynomials of
degree less than or equal to n,
forming a vector space over the
field of real numbers.
Subspaces
Definition:-
SC V
 Suppose V is a vector space SCV it is a vector
space W.R.T the same addition & Scalar
Multiplication define on V then it is called a
subspace of V.
EXAMPLE :-

Zero Vector: The zero vector space in V3 ,

0=(0,0,0), must be in V.(0+0+0)=0v ⟹ 0v∈V.
0+0+0=0v⟹0v∈V.
Conclusion

Vector spaces are foundational to many areas of mathematics,

science, and engineering. They are essential in computer graphics,
machine learning, quantum mechanics, and other fields.
Applications include data analysis, signal processing, and solving
systems of linear equations. Their ability to represent linear
relationships and perform linear transformations makes them
powerful tools for modeling and understanding complex systems.
