WHAT IS
SEMICONDCUTOR
TECHNOLOGY ?
A semiconductor substance lies between the
conductor and insulator. It controls and
manages the flow of electric current in
electronic equipment and devices.

As a result, it is a popular component of

electronic chips made for computing
components and a variety of electronic
devices, including solid-state storage.
HOW DOES IT WORKS
▪The industry is based on the foundry model,
which consists of semiconductor fabrication
plants (foundries) and integrated circuit
design operations, each belonging to
separate companies or subsidiaries. Some
companies, known as integrated device
manufacturers, both design and
manufacture semiconductors.

▪The foundry model has resulted

in consolidation among foundries.
TYPES OF SEMICONDUCTOR

INTRINSIC
TYPES OF
SEMICONDUCTOR
P TYPE AND N
EXTRINSIC
TYPE
INTRINSIC
❖A semiconductor in extremely
pure form is known as intrinsic
semiconductor.
❖The bond is formed by sharing
of valance electron with other
atom, such bonds are called as
covalent bond. The valance
electrons are not free thus the
pure semiconductor are
practically nonconductor of
electricity at low temperatures
❖Ex :-Silicon ,Germanium
EXTRINSIC
❖The conductivity of
semiconductor is
increased by adding a
small amount of
suitable impurity to
pure semiconductor
such material are
known as extrinsic
semiconductor.
❖The process of
adding impurities to a
semiconductor is
known as doping.
Difference between P and
N semiconductor

P Type N Type
Semiconductor Semiconductor
1) In P type 1) In N type
trivalent impurity pentavalent
is added. impurity is added.
2) Majority carrier 2) Majority carriers
are holes and are electrons and
minority carriers minority carriers
HISTORY OF
SEMICONDUCTOR
APPLICATIONS OF
SEMICONDUCTOR
• Used as clipper for clipping AC
portion.
• Used as clamper i.e. to change
reference voltage.
•Used as switches in most electronic
circuits.
• Used as switches in digital logic
circuits.
•.Used in demodulator circuit.
• Used in detector circuit. 7. Used in
voltage multipliers.
ADVANTAGES
1) The semiconductor devices has almost an
unlimited life
2) The semiconductor devices has a small size ,
so the circuit involving devices are very compact.
DISADVANTAGES
1) In when we have to use the
ordinary semiconductor devices
cannot handle as more power as
