In 1911, a young man named Nguyen Tat
Thanh started his own journey in order to
“find the country’s shape” . His journey
lasted for 30 years, until 1941 when he
returned to his homeland
1911: Departure from
Vietnam
Ho Chi Minh embarked on a journey that would take him
across the globe, working as a kitchen hand on a French
steamer.
TIMELINE
1912-1917: Life in London and
Paris
In Europe, Ho immersed himself in Western thought,
learning about democracy, socialism, and the works of
Karl Marx.
1917-1923: Political Activities in France and
the US
Ho became actively involved in socialist circles, writing
articles advocating for Vietnamese independence.

Japan's surrender: In August 1945, Japan
surrendered, leaving a power vacuum in

Vietnam. The Viet Minh seized this
opportunity to organize the August Uprising,
taking control of several cities, including
Hanoi. They also weakened the French
colonial authority and made the declaration
of independence possible.

proclaimed by Ho Chi Minh on September 2,
1945 in Hanoi, in Ba Dinh Square, in front of a
crowd of thousands, affirming the end of
French rule and the establishment of a free
and independent Vietnam.
