TYPES
OF
LINES
Vertical
Vertical lines run straight up and down.
Use your
finger to draw
a vertical line
in the air.
Horizontal
A horizontal line runs from right to left,
or left to right.
Horizontal comes from the word ‘horizon’.
The horizon is the line
where earth’s surface
and the sky appear to
meet.
Parallel
Parallel lines are lines that will never meet
because they are always the same
distance apart.
Zebra crossing lines
are a good example
of parallel lines.
Perpendicular
Perpendicular lines are lines that will
meet to form a right angle.
A right angle is 90
degrees.
Can you name these
lines?

FINDING THE
OTHER HALF
INSTRUCTIONS:
I will hand each of you a photo,
you will locate the provided half-picture,
and paste it on the provided paper.
Learning Competency:
Identifies and visualizes
symmetry in the environment
and in design (M3GE-IIIg-7.3)
At the end of the lesson, the
learners should be able to:
[Link] symmetry in
environment and in design;
[Link] symmetry in the
environment and in design; and
[Link] participate in class
discussions and be willing to
share their ideas.
What would be the
best definition of
symmetry based on
the images you
created?
What do you think the
other side looks like
in the given picture?
Does the other side
look the same as
what you imagined?
What Is Symmetry?
Something is symmetrical
when it is the same on both
sides.

Symmetry
In Maths, we learn about
symmetry.
Line of
Symmetry
What do you think is the
name or do we call a line
that divides the picture into
two equal parts
Symmetry
Symmetry often comes up in Art and Design
activities too.
How Can You Find Out If a Shape Is
Symmetrical?
There are two ways of finding out if a shape is symmetrical.
The first way is to draw the shape and fold it in half. Are they the
same on both sides when you unfold them?

How Can You Find Out If a Shape Is
Symmetrical?
The other way you can find out if a shape is symmetrical
is by using a mirror.
If you hold the mirror up along the middle of a shape, you
can see by looking in the mirror if the shape is exactly the
same on the other side.
Shapes with One Line of
Symmetry
This is an isosceles triangle.
This type of triangle has 1 line of symmetry down the centre. If
you try and fold it in other ways, it won’t be the same on both
sides.
Shapes with More Than One Line of
Symmetry
This is a rectangle. It has 2 lines of symmetry.
Shapes with More Than One Line of
Symmetry
This is a square. A square has 4 lines of symmetry.
Shapes with No Lines of
Symmetry
Many irregular shapes have
no lines of symmetry. An
irregular shape is a shape
whose sides are not the
same.
GROUP ACTIVITY
FIX ME
The class will divide into
3 groups and use the
given blocks to give the
symmetric parts of the
pictures.
IDENTIFY ME!
Direction: Identify if the
given image is an
example of symmetry or
not.
Do You Think the Following
Shapes Have Lines of Symmetry?
This arrow has 1 line of symmetry down the middle.
Do You Think the Following
Shapes Have Lines of Symmetry?
This bicycle has no lines of symmetry. It is not the same on both
sides.
Do You Think the Following
Shapes Have Lines of Symmetry?
This shape does not have any lines of symmetry.
It is not the same on both sides.
Do You Think the Following
Shapes Have Lines of Symmetry?
This shape has 1 line of symmetry down the
middle.
We can see symmetry in
nature.
Symmetry is used in
architecture.
Symmetrical designs are used in cathedrals and
churches.
Symmetrical designs are used in mosaic and
tile decorations.
Textiles and mats have symmetrical
designs.
