Muslim religions
A Muslim Arabic is someone
who follows or practices Islam, a
monotheistic Abrahamic religion.
Muslims consider the Quran,
their holy book, to be the
verbatim word of God as
revealed to the Islamic prophet
and messenger Muhammad.
The Doctrine of Islam
Muslims summarize their doctrine in six articles of faith:
1. Belief in one Allah: Muslims believe Allah is one, eternal,
creator, and sovereign.
2. Belief in the angels
3. Belief in the prophets: The prophets include the biblical
prophets but end with Muhammad as Allah’s final prophet.
4. Belief in the revelations of Allah: Muslims accept certain
portions of the Bible, such as the Torah and the Gospels. They
believe the Qur'an is the preexistent, perfect word of Allah.
5. Belief in the last day of judgment and the hereafter: Everyone
will be resurrected for judgment into either paradise or hell.
6. Belief in predestination: Muslims believe Allah has decreed
everything that will happen. Muslims testify to Allah’s
sovereignty with their frequent phrase, inshallah, meaning, “if
God wills.”
The Five Pillars of Islam
1. The testimony of faith (shahada): “la ilaha illa allah.
Muhammad rasul Allah.” This means, “There is no deity but
Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.” A person can
convert to Islam by stating this creed. The shahada shows that a
Muslim believes in Allah alone as deity and believes that
Muhammad reveals Allah.
2. Prayer (salat): Five ritual prayers must be performed every day.
3. Giving (zakat): This almsgiving is a certain percentage given
once a year.
4. Fasting (sawm): Muslims fast during Ramadan in the ninth
month of the Islamic calendar. They must not eat or drink from
dawn until sunset.
5. Pilgrimage (hajj): If physically and financially possible, a
Muslim must make the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia at
least once. The hajj is performed in the twelfth month of the
Islam
Crescent and Star: The faith of Islam is symbolized by
the Crescent and Star. The Crescent is the early phase of
the moon and represents progress. The star signifies
illumination with the light of knowledge. Islam by
definition means submission and has the extended
meaning of peace.
Where did islam begin?
The origin of Islam is generally accredited to the prophet
Muhammad but to the devout Muslim, Islam began long
before Muhammad ever walked the earth. The Qur'an was
dictated by Muhammad but, according to the Qur'an, it did not
originate with Muhammad. The Qur'an testifies of itself that it
was given by God through the angel Gabriel to the prophet
Muhammad. "This is a revelation from the Lord of the
universe. The Honest Spirit (Gabriel) came down with it, to
reveal it into your heart that you may be one of the warners, in
a perfect Arabic tongue" (Sura 26:192-195). "Say, 'Anyone
who opposes Gabriel should know that he has brought down
this (the Qur'an) into your heart, in accordance with God's
will, confirming previous scriptures, and providing guidance
and good news for the believers'" (Sura 2:97).
Muhammad is the prophet and
founder of Islam. As of 2015,
there are over 1.8 billion Muslims
in the world who profess, “There
is no God but Allah, and
Muhammad is his prophet.”
The four most important cities of muslims:
1. Kaaba and Al-Masjid al-Haram, Mecca,
Saudi Arabia.
2. Worshipers flood the Grand mosque, its roof,
and all the areas around it during night prayers.
3. Al-Masjid an-Nabawi in Medina, Saudi
Arabia.
4. Al-Aqsa Mosque, Jerusalem.
The two most holy sites:
Masjid al-Haram ("The Sacred Mosque"),
is a large mosque in the city of Mecca,
Saudi Arabia and the second largest in
Islam. It surrounds the Kaaba, the place
which all Muslims turn towards each day
in prayer, considered by Muslims to be
the holiest place on Earth.
Themosque serves as a place where Muslims
can come together for salat meaning "prayer"
as well as a center for information, education,
social welfare, and dispute settlement. The
imam leads the congregation in prayer
Buddhist temple
They include the structures called vihara,
stupa, wat and pagoda in different regions
and languages. Temples in Buddhism
represent the pure land or pure
environment of a Buddha. Traditional
Buddhist temples are designed to inspire
inner and outer peace. Its structure and
architecture varies from region to region.
Two main branches of
1.islam
Sunni
The Sunni branch is by far the largest denomination of Islam and
represents 89-90% of all followers of Islam. They are present
throughout the Middle East with large concentrations in Saudi
Arabia and Egypt. Sunni followers believe that Muhammad had
not appointed a specific successor and many years after his death
and significant debate, followers chose Abu Bakr Siddique. This
man was one of Muhammad’s fathers-in-law and a close friend.
One of the positions within the religion is that of Imam, who
under Sunni belief is the formal prayer leader. Sunnis believe that
the Qur’an applies to all of life and that individuals can approach
God directly and that he will present himself on Judgment Day
2. Shi’a
The Shi’a followers believe that Muhammad did
choose a successor, Ali ibn Abi Talib, his son-in-law.
Shi’a believers also have Imams, who are more
central figures and community leaders because they
are the perfect manifestation of God. This branch is
less about the individual’s relationship with God and
more about the cleric’s interpretation of the Qur’an.
Unlike the Sunni, the Shi’a do not believe that
humans will see God on Judgment Day. Since they are
a minority sect, calculating their numbers is difficult.
The majority, however, seem to reside in Iran, Iraq,
Bahrain, and Azerbaijan.
ALLAH
Allah is the Arabic word referring to God in
Abrahamic religions. It is distinguished from
ilāh (Arabic: )إله, the Arabic word meaning
deity, which could refer to any of the gods
worshipped in pre-Islamic Arabia.
The Qur'an
The Qur'an is the holy book for
Muslims, revealed in stages to the
Prophet Muhammad over 23 years.
