Project NOAH Flood Hazard Mapping

Project NOAH, launched in July 2012, aims to enhance disaster risk reduction and management in the Philippines through a flood mitigation system, improved geohazard maps, and storm surge vulnerability maps. The initiative employs advanced disaster science research and develops accessible tools for disaster prevention and mitigation, including automated weather stations and various mapping technologies. Additionally, it features mobile applications and a platform called WebSAFE to assess population exposure to flood hazards.

Disaster Risk Reduction and

Management

Nationwide Operational
Assessment of Hazards
What is Project NOAH?
As per President Benigno Aquino III’s
directive to put in place a responsive
program for disaster prevention &
mitigation, the Department of Science &
Technology launched Project NOAH last
July 2012 in Marikina City.
Specifically, Project NOAH aims to
provide: Nartea, 2012

• flood mitigation system, specifically targeting a 6 hour flood

early warning system for communities along 18 major river
systems;
• enhancement of geohazard maps and;
• enhancement of storm surge vulnerability maps
How do they do this?
 advanced disaster science research
 multidisciplinary assessment of hazards

 develop accessible tools that enable prevention &

mitigation of disasters
