ii)ileum
3. Large Intestine -i) Caecum ii) Ascending
colon
iii) Transverse colon
iv) Descending coloni

ACIDIFIERS

• Acidifiers are the drugs or agents ,which are used to treat acid-base
imbalance in the body or for the treatment of metabolic alkalosis

• Acidifiers are the agents, which are used to neutralize the PH which has
been increased due to certain causes like excess alkali intake.

• Normal urinary-PH-7
• E.g:-Dilute HCL
A N TA C I D S

• Purpose: Neutralize stomach(HCl) acid.

■ Examples:
• Aluminium hydroxide
•Magnesium hydroxide
• Calcium carbonate
• Indications: Heartburn, indigestion.
E.g:-Sodium bicarbonate
LAXATIVES

 These are drugs that promote

evacuation of bowels.
 A distinction is sometimes made
according to the intensity of action.
 (a) Laxative or aperient: milder action,
elimination of soft but formed stools.
 (b) Purgative or cathartic: stronger
action resulting in more fluid
evacuation.
 Many drugs in low doses act as laxative
and in larger doses as purgative.
ADSORBENT

 These are chemically inert substances which are used in the

treatment of mild diarrhoea or dysentery of GIT because of
their ability to adsorb gases, toxins and bacteria

 E.g:- Bismuth subcarbonate ,

Bismuth subnitrate
milk of Bismuth.
