• Director:
The director is the higher authority and is responsible for the overall
management, direction and functioning of laboratories. The director
oversees case work, staffing, coordination with other agencies.
• Deputy director :
Assist the director in administrative and operational duties.

Experts in forensic fields
Senior scientist manage specialised sections and lead investigations.
• Forensic scientist :
They work under the supervision of forensic senior scientist
They conduct test, analyse evidence and generate report.

Hierarchy of SFSL
• SFSLs are regional laboratories that serves specific states.
• State Forensic Science Laboratories (SFSLs) play a crucial
role in the Indian criminal justice system by providing forensic analysis
and expert testimony.
• Analyze various types of evidence to assist law enforcement and the
judiciary in investigations and trials.
• Analyzes biological samples (blood, semen, hair), DNA,
toxicology reports, questioned documents, ballistics,
and digital evidence.
• Forensic scientists from SFSLs provide expert testimony
in courts, explaining the findings of their analysis and
their significance in the case.

Coordination of CFSLs and SFSL
• Training and standardization :
CFSLs play a key role in providing training technical support and sending
forensic science standards to SFSLs
• Case Referral:
Complex or specialized cases from SFSL maybe referred to CFSL for further
investigation.
• Collaboration:
Both type of laboratories often collaborates on large scale criminal
investigations and both are under the guidance of National or State Forensic
bodies.
