MISSION

To harness and promote the market potentials to serve the housing needs
of all segments of the population with the focus on low and moderate
income housing.

Promoting inclusive expansion with stability in housing finance market.
ORGIN OF NHB

• It was observed during the 7th 5 year plan, the Indian housing sector was not
progressing due to non availability of long term finance.

• Therefore, a high level group was setup under chairmanship of C. Rangarajan.

• This group recommended setting of autonomous institution as NHB


ESTABLISMENT OF NHB

• NHB was established on July 09, 1988 under National Housing Bank Act 1987.

• It is wholly owned subsidiary of Government of India.

• Head Quarters : New Delhi

• MD AND CEO :Sarada Kumar Hota.

• The whole process is regulated by Reserve Bank Of India.

OBJECTIVES OF NHB
• To promote a sound, healthy, viable and cost effective housing finance system to cater all segments
of the population and to integrate the hosing finance system with the overall financial system.

• To promote a network of dedicated housing finance institutions to adequately serve various regions
and different income groups.

• To make housing credit more affordable.

• To encourage public agencies to emerge as facilitators and suppliers of services land for housing.

• To regulate activities of HFC’S based on regulatory and supervisory authority derived under the Act.

FUNCTIONS OF NHB
1. Regulation and Supervision:
 NHB has come up with guidelines for recognizing HFC’S for its financial assistance,
guidelines for financial assistance.

 Issues guidelines for prudential norms for income recognition and asset classification,
KYC guidelines etc.

 NHB also inspects the HFC’s through offsite surveillance.

 The bank setup an online Grievance Registration and Information Database System

(GRIDS) to look into the grievances of customers against HFC’S.

2. Promotion and Development:
 Encourages financial institutions to finance housing sector by refinancing their lending.

 Setting up the Housing finance Companies.

 Participating in the equity of Housing Finance companies.

 Impart training to banking section and HFC’S for developing housing financing skills.

 Formulation of Housing Finance Index.

3. Financing:
 Provides housing refinance to a large set of retail institutions like scheduled commercial banks,
scheduled state cooperative banks, scheduled urban cooperative banks, specialized housing
finance institutions, development banks. In addition, the Bank has also extended financial
support to the housing schemes formulated by Public Housing Agencies.

4. Implementation of Government Schemes :


 The NHB act as a central Nodal Agency (CNA) for the implementation of government of India’s
Schemes.

Eg: Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Rural Housing Interest Subsidy Scheme, etc.
