Woven vs. Knitted Fabric Differences

The document compares woven and knitted fabrics, highlighting their structural differences, production processes, and applications in apparel. Woven fabrics consist of two sets of yarns and have higher density and tensile strength, while knitted fabrics are made from one set of yarn and offer greater elasticity and softness. Additionally, it discusses the advantages of the knitwear sector in Bangladesh, noting its self-sufficiency and significant export capabilities.

o Woven fabric is made up at least of two separate
groups of yarns (warp and weft) and knit fabric
can be made up of one yarn only.
o Weaving is the process of interlacing of 2 set of
yarn to form a fabric.
o knitting is the process of intermeshing / interloping
of 1 set of yarn to form a fabric.
ELASTICITY
o Elasticity is the ability of the fabric to extend
and recover to its original shape and length.
o Knitted fabric has higher
extensibility and instant
recovery ability than woven
fabric.
WOVEN & KNITTED
FABRIC DENSITY AND COVER
o Woven fabric can be produced in extremely
tight and higher coverage compared with
knitted fabric.
o Woven fabric Density is much higher than
knitted fabric.
o Knitted fabric is looser in structure.

warping, sizing, draw-in; while knitting only requires yarn
waxing.
