INTRODUCTION
Overview of COVID-19:
COVID-19 is a viral respiratory disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, a novel coronavirus first identified
in December 2019. It belongs to the Coronaviridae family, which includes viruses that infect humans
and animals. It is called "corona" because the virus has spike-like proteins on its surface that resemble a
crown (Latin: "corona") when viewed under an electron microscope.
Virus Structure & Characteristics:
Single-stranded RNA virus.
Spherical with spike (S) proteins, envelope (E), membrane (M), and
nucleocapsid (N) proteins.
The S protein binds to ACE2 receptors in human cells, allowing viral entry and replication.
Mutations have led to different variants (Alpha, Delta, Omicron), affecting transmissibility and
severity.
Understanding the virus structure helps in developing vaccines, treatments, and diagnostic tests

TRANSMISSION
Understanding transmission helps in implementing preventive measures.
SYMPTOMS
Early detection of symptoms helps in *timely diagnosis and treatment.
RISK FACTORS
Identifying high-risk groups helps in targeted prevention and treatment.
DIAGNOSIS
Accurate diagnosis is crucial for isolating cases and preventing spread.
DIAGNOSIS
Accurate diagnosis is crucial for isolating cases and preventing spread.
GLOBAL IMPACT
• Healthcare Strain:
Overcrowded hospitals, medical supply
shortages
• Economic Consequences:
Business closures, job losses, global
recession
• Mental Health Effects:
Anxiety, depression, stress disorders
• Educational Disruptions:
School closures, shift to online learning
Understanding the global impact helps in policy-making and resource allocation.
PREVENTION AND SAFETY MEASURE
Prevention is key to reducing transmission and saving lives.
TREATMENT
Global Vaccination Efforts:
• Antiviral medications (e.g.,
Remdesivir).
• Steroids to reduce inflammation
in severe cases.
• Oxygen therapy for patients with
breathing difficulties.
• Monoclonal antibodies for high-
Effective treatment reduces the severity and mortality
risk patients.
VACCINE
Vaccination is the most effective way to reduce severe illness and death.
VACCINE
Global Vaccination Efforts:
Over 13 billion doses
administered worldwide by
2023.
• WHO-led COVAX
initiative aimed at
equitable vaccine
distribution.
• Countries implemented
mass vaccination
campaigns to curb the
pandemic.
