Solar Cells
A solar cell is an electronic device which
directly converts sunlight into electricity. Light
shining on the solar cell produces both a current
and a voltage to generate electric power.[3]

University of Science and
Technology which covers
(1/5) of the university’s need
for electricity.
The light generated current:
The generation of current in a
solar cell, known as the "light-
generated current", involves
two key processes:
The first process is the
absorption of incident photons
to create electron-hole pairs. A
second process, the collection
(separation) of these carriers by
the p-n junction. [3]
IV-curve:
The IV curve of a solar cell is the superposition of the IV curve of the solar cell diode in the dark with the
light-generated current.

Voc and Isc
The short-circuit current is the current through the solar cell when the voltage across the
solar cell is zero [3]

Efficiency of a solar cell

The efficiency is the most commonly used [3]
parameter to compare the performance of one =
solar cell to another.
Bifacial solar cell:
Bifacial photovoltaics (BPVs) are
a promising alternative to
conventional monofacial
photovoltaics given their ability
to exploit solar irradiance from
both the front and rear sides of
the panel.
it was found that BPV panels
could produce between 10% and
15% more output power than a
conventional panel.[2]

How to Maximize the Ref.2
Output of
Bifacial Solar Cells ?

In the case of the bifacial

solar cell more parameters
must be taken into
consideration as: the
height of the panel off the
ground, the panel’s angle
of tilt, and the albedo of
the surface the panel is
mounted on.
Objectives

1) To study topography of the ground on the power generated

2) Study the effect of different reflectors and color on the output
of the bifacial solar cell
3) study the output of the bifacial cell by changing the height of
the cell and the tilt angle.
4) Study the output of the bifacial cell during the day and
changing the reflectors
:Methodology

we measured Isc in the 4 cases:

• Flat aluminum foil wrapped over the table
• Spherical caps
• V-shaped grooves
• Different ground colors and the concrete itself
• Different reflectors during the day

Solar system electricity production
The inverter a device that converts
direct current (DC) electricity,
which is what a solar panel
generates, to alternating current
(AC) electricity, which the
electrical grid uses.
Cell orientation
vertically mounted bifacial
panels were able to
outperform the monofacial
panels by 10%–20%.[1]

:Conclusions
1) The output of a photovoltaic solar system is significantly influenced by
the height of the cell and the tilt angle from the ground.

2) Surfaces with light colors reflect a greater amount of radiation compared

to surfaces with other colors.

3) The ground of a V-shaped structure reflects more radiation than a flat

aluminum surface or spherical caps in the event of a vertical cell position.
Conversely, spherical tops generate a greater amount of electricity when the
cell is positioned horizontally.
