WHAT IS ERGONOMICS?
AS PER INT. ERGONOMICS
ASSOCIATION…..
• Ergonomics is the science of designing or
arranging workplaces, products, and systems
to fit the people who use them, optimizing
efficiency and safety.
• It focuses on reducing discomfort, injury risk,
and increasing productivity by tailoring the
work environment to the worker's
capabilities.

TYPES OF
ERGONOMICS
LETS SEE THE GENERAL
• CLASSICATION.
Physical Ergonomics:
• This area focuses on the human body's response to physical workloads. It
addresses issues like musculoskeletal disorders, repetitive strain injuries, and
discomfort caused by factors like posture, force, and repetitive movements. It
aims to reduce physical strain and prevent injuries by optimizing
workstations, tools, and tasks.
• Cognitive Ergonomics:
• This type examines mental processes like perception, memory, reasoning,
and motor response as they relate to human interaction with systems. It
focuses on reducing mental workload, improving decision-making, and
minimizing errors by optimizing displays, controls, and information
presentation.
• Organizational Ergonomics:
• This part looks at the larger picture of how organizational structures, policies,
and processes impact worker well-being and performance. It includes aspects
like work schedules, job design, teamwork, and communication, aiming to
create a supportive and efficient work environment.

HOW TO APPLY IT IN DAY-TO-DAY LIF
LETS DIVE IN THE METHODOLOGY……A brief
overview.
• Make sure you have a neutral posture whether you sit, stand
and walk.
• Avoid over-working and tiring out yourself knowingly or
unknowingly. You can use Pomodoro technique.
• Stay hydrated not just by water but with necessary electrolytes.
• Use general safety measures such as Industrial Shoes, gloves,
Lab coats, Sterile gloves, etc.
• Use blue-cut glasses and a posture corrector if you have to sit
on a PC/Laptop or on a gaming setup.

Tips for an
Ergonomic
1. Use a good chair with a dynamic chair
Computer back and sit back in this
2. Top of monitor casing 2-3" (5-8 cm)
Workstation above eye level
3. No glare on screen, use an optical glass
anti-glare filter where needed
4. Sit at arms length from monitor
5. Feet on floor or stable footrest
6. Use a document holder, preferably in-
line with the computer screen
7. Wrists flat and straight in relation to
forearms to use keyboard/mouse/input
device
8. Arms and elbows relaxed close to body
9. Center monitor and keyboard in front of
you
10. Use a negative tilt keyboard tray with
an upper mouse platform or downward
tilt able platform adjacent to keyboard
11. Use a stable work surface and stable
(no bounce) keyboard tray
12. Take frequent short breaks
(microbreaks)

ERGONOMICS 101-FOR NON-CORPORATE
EMPLOYEES
• Tilt the work surface instead of the
wrist.
• Stand with weight evenly distributed between feet. When
standing for long periods of time, rest one foot on a sturdy
object above floor height and switch legs periodically.
18
