Electricity
Introduction
We use electricity everyday.
We use electricity to watch TV, to
cook, to turn on the light…
Chapter 1:
Electricity in our
life
Electricity is a type of energy.
We use electricity to make machines work.
We use electric machines in our homes, schools, and offices.
Electric
machines
in school
Electric machines in home
Electric machines in office
Electric machines
help us to do
many things
In the kitchen,
We use a kettle to make water hot.
We use a fridge to keep our food cold.
We use a stove to cook our food.
We use a dishwasher to wash our dishes.
Chapter 2:
Electricity in nature
•Lightning is a type of electricity in
nature.
•Lightning is very hot.
How to be safe?
When you see lightning in the sky, get into your home.
Lightning can go into your body and give you an
electric shock
Chapter 3: How do
we make
electricity ?
•We make electricity in power station.
•Many power stations use coal to make
electricity.
How does the power station work?
1. We burn the coal to make water hot.
2. Hot water makes steam.
3. The steam turns a turbine
4. The turbine turns the generator.
5. Then the generator makes electricity.
Some power stations use water
to make electricity. The water in
the river turns turbines.
We can use wind
to make
electricity, too.
The wind turns turbines to
make electricity.
Chapter 4:
Batteries
Some machines get electricity
from batteries.
Most batteries are small. They
make electricity for small
machines.
Big batteries make electricity for
big machines.
For example, a car batteries help
the car to work.
Chapter 5: How
we get electricity
Electricity moves from power
station to our homes. How does
it get there?
Electricity moves in wires.
The wires take electricity to our homes,
schools and offices. Then we can use it.
Wires take electricity to sockets.
We put a plug in a socket to use
electricity.
Electricity goes from the socket
to the plug.
Wire take electricity from plug to
electric machines.
Chapter 6: How
Electricity moves
Electricity moves through some
materials.
Electricity moves fast through metal.
Electricity moves through water, too.
Don’t touch electric machines with wet
hands. You can get an electric shock.
Chapter 6: How
Electricity moves
Electricity can’t move through plastic or
glass. These materials stop electricity
moving.
Example:
The plugs have plastic on them. Plastic stop
electricity moving to us when we touch a
plug.
Chapter 7: Stop
pollution
Many power stations burn coal
to make electricity. This makes
pollution.
What can we do
to stop pollution?
We can turn off the lamps, computer and
other machines when we don’t use them.
We can get electricity from power
stations that use water and wind to make
electricity.
What can we We can also use the sun to make electricity.
do to stop Solar panels use energy from the sun to make electricity.
