If you use Maps through your device’s internet browser, like Chrome or Safari, you might get a message that Maps can’t determine your precise location. This message displays if:
- Your mobile internet browser doesn't have permission to find your location.
- Your location is turned off on your mobile device.
Switch to the Google Maps app
To use features like traffic alerts and turn-by-turn navigation, and to help Maps find your location:
- On your Android phone or tablet, download the latest version of the app.
- Open the Google Maps app

- Tap My location
.
- If you get a message that asks you to allow Maps to access your location, tap one of the allow options.
Keep using Google Maps in your mobile browser
You can use Google Maps on your mobile device even if the app isn’t installed. For best results, share your location with the internet browser.
Step 1: Turn on your device's location- On your Android phone or tablet, go to the Settings app

- Under "Personal," tap Location.
- Depending on your device, this may be found elsewhere.
- Turn on Location.
- In your mobile browser, open Google Maps.
- Reload the page.
- Tap My location
.
- If there’s no error after you open Google Maps and there’s a message about your device’s location, tap one of the allow options.
- If you still get an error when you open Google Maps, move to step 2.
Chrome
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app

- At the top right, tap More
Settings.
- Under “Advanced,” tap Site settings
Location.
- Turn on Location.
- If you find "Location access is turned off for this device:"
- Tap the blue words.
- On the next screen, turn on Location access.
- If you find "Blocked:"
- Under "Location," tap Blocked
any Google Sites that you find
Clear & reset.
- Under "Location," tap Blocked
- If you find "Location access is turned off for this device:"
- In your mobile browser, open Google Maps .
- Reload the page.
