About the Challenge:

Welcome to the Alliance AI4Health Medical Innovation Challenge! This student-run challenge is focused on designing medicine and health solutions to address some of the most pressing issues in the medical field. Our objective is to inspire and empower the next generation of innovators to leverage and build fundamental skills in creating transformative healthcare solutions.

Student participants will tackle real-world challenges, construct innovative potential solutions, and develop cutting-edge AI applications that can improve patient outcomes. Whether it's through predictive analytics, personalized medicine, automated diagnostics, or advanced data management, your innovative solutions can make a significant impact on the future of healthcare.

Our challenge offers two different tracks, the hackathon and ideathon tracks.

  • The hackathon track encompasses designing and prototyping an AI related project in the field of healthcare to directly solve an issue. The hackathon track requires a written submission explaining the solution and a demonstration of the prototype in an asynchronous format.

  • The ideathon track offers a way for teams to ideate on and develop a solution or an innovation to tackle a major issue. Teams will create a presentation to explain the solution and demonstrate any renderings or mock-ups.

Join us in this exciting journey to revolutionize medical technology and make a difference in the lives of countless individuals. Use your innovation and technical skills to excel as you collaborate with like-minded individuals and push the boundaries of what's possible in the future of technology and medicine.

Requirements

What to Build

For this hackathon, you'll be working on AI-related projects in the field of healthcare. Below are the specific requirements and expectations for each track:

Hackathon Track:

Objective: Design and prototype an AI-driven solution to directly address a major issue in medicine and healthcare.

Requirements:
  • Written Submission: Provide a detailed explanation of your solution, including the problem it addresses, the AI technologies used, and the expected impact.
  • Prototype Demonstration: Create a functional prototype and demonstrate its capabilities in an asynchronous format (e.g., a recorded video).
Ideathon Track:

Objective: Ideate and develop an innovative solution to tackle a significant healthcare or medicine related problem.

Requirements:

  • Presentation: Develop a comprehensive presentation that explains your problem or motivation (both quantitatively and qualitatively), your proposed solution, and how your solution tackles the problem effectively.
  • Renderings/Mock-ups: Include any visual renderings or mock-ups that illustrate your concept.

Judging Criteria

  • Creativity
How novel and intriguing is your idea? Reflect on the originality of your proposed solution. Does it introduce new concepts, approaches, or perspectives that haven't been widely explored or implemented? How does it stand out from conventional methods?
  • Implementation
Has the issue and solution been assessed deeply to come up with the most effective idea? Consider the thoroughness of your analysis in understanding the problem, including identifying root causes and potential obstacles.
  • Impact
How effectively does your solution solve the issue? Evaluate the potential outcomes and benefits of your proposed solution, both short-term and long-term.
