Tom Saxon is the co-founder of our coffee subscription company Batch Coffee Club and author of The Home Barista coffee book, bringing over a decade of hands-on experience in the specialty coffee industry to every page. His coffee journey began in Australia, where he honed his skills as a barista in independent coffee shops before mastering the art of coffee roasting.
Tom’s passion for coffee took him across the globe to South America, where he lived and worked in Colombia and Peru, gaining invaluable experience on coffee farms and understanding life in coffee-producing countries firsthand. This immersive experience gave him unique insights into the entire coffee supply chain, from seed to cup.
Returning to the UK, Tom continued his coffee education as a roaster for an independent Manchester roastery. However, he and co-founder Laura noticed a gap in accessible information about Britain’s thriving independent specialty coffee scene. Armed with little more than “a pen, a spoon, a kettle and a bit of prior knowledge about creating a website,” they founded their coffee company to bridge this gap.
Tom’s writing combines professional expertise with genuine passion, drawing from years of hands-on experience as a barista, roaster, and coffee farm worker. His commitment to sourcing and showcasing the very best coffee shines through in his coffee book, making complex coffee knowledge accessible to home enthusiasts everywhere. More than just an instructional guide, “The Home Barista” doubles as a beautiful coffee table book filled with stunning photography from his travels through coffee-growing regions.
When he’s not writing or cupping coffee, Tom continues to explore the UK’s specialty coffee scene, always on the hunt for exceptional beans to feature in their carefully curated coffee offerings.
