Day 2 opened with strong messages from NRW Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Action and Energy's Dr Johannes Velling, Director General "Digitalization and Startups" who underscored that the Ruhr region is no longer defined by its industrial past — it is rapidly becoming a leading Greentech hub. NRW has reaffirmed its goal to become Europe’s first climate-neutral industrial region, showing how climate policy and economic development now actively reinforce one another.

The morning panel on building European resilience highlighted the fast-emerging new realities of the energy transition. Panelists Jutta Wuebken from STIFEL, Claas Heise from NRW Bank, Malte Berghaus from TÜV NORD Group and Antti Ritala from Tesi stressed the need for secure infrastructure, pragmatic cybersecurity, and regulatory simplification. With millions of new devices being integrated into the grid, Europe must align faster — not add complexity.

The keynote by Tech Tour founder William Stevens challenged Europe’s long-standing perception problem: If we keep telling ourselves scaling is too hard in Europe, we risk making it true. Deeptech returns do exist, and Europe’s innovators are proving it every day.
