Chapter 3 - Developing the Team
Company Role:
A developer (or development studio) is the company that creates the game—coming up with a game concept, creating a prototype, and producing the final product.
A publisher will fund, market, and distribute a game title.
Third-party developer: When a publisher funds or hires an outside developer to create a title, the developer is known as a third-party developer.
Self Fund Developer
A licensor is involved if the game’s content is adapted from an original source.
Independent Developer
The Evil Within 2 is a third-person survival horror video game developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
Team Roles
In theory, a game could be created by just an artist and a programmer — but it takes
a lot more than programming and art skills to create a working prototype that will
form the basis of a successful game.
