The invention relates to a method for the production of a signature composed of folded and stitched/stapled or glued leaves, in particular ones printed on both sides, and to signatures produced by this method. The object of the invention is to produce a new type of signature which is suitable for manufacturing economically and for stitching/stapling by machine. For this purpose, the signature according to the invention is characterised by a top leaf (after folding inner leaf) folded in alternate directions to form three leaves, and by a lower leaf (after folding outer leaf) folded in the same direction to form three leaves, which top and lower leaves are stitched/stapled or glued together at the fold in the same direction so that a so-called window fold is formed on the one side and on the other a normal fold.
