  • Most people do not wake up thinking about Employer of Record. They wake up thinking about the engineer they want to hire in a new market, the team they need to support in a country with messy regulations, or the CFO asking why so much cash is tied up in deposits and pre-funding. By the time “we need an EOR” shows up on the whiteboard, there is usually a lot of context behind it. That is why we spend so much time listening to questions. Over the years, we have heard them from every angle: founders hiring their first global employee, People leaders untangling legacy setups, finance teams trying to understand where the money actually goes. What we have learned is simple: EOR is not a checkbox. It is not even really a category you “buy” once. It is an operating model decision. And every company’s reality is different enough that they deserve more than a generic sales script. We're sharing the 5 questions that come up over and over again in those conversations. They are real, unpolished, and they tend to separate “sounds good on a website” from “this will actually work for us.” If you are comparing EOR partners for 2026, or quietly wondering if your current setup is still the right fit, these questions are a solid place to start.     What a year for Canadian tech. Somehow, we are already six weeks from the end of 2025. Most of us have spent the year heads down building, shipping, hiring, and putting out fires. It is easy to forget how far we have come. But when you come up for air and actually look around, it has been a huge year. Across Canada, you can feel ambition turning into momentum. AI has gone from an “interesting experiment” to the main storyline. Hundreds of new startups were launched, and a lot of existing teams broke through to new heights. Just a tiny sample: Cohere pushing enterprise AI, Conquest Planning rethinking financial advice, Clearco, Neo Financial, KOHO, Float, Wealthsimple driving fintech forward, Moonvalley, Venn, Felix, StackAdapt, Tailscale, Rootly, Spellbook, Basetwo AI, Ownright - and so many others. At Borderless AI, we feel lucky to be building alongside this ecosystem. My 2026 bet: AI keeps making big leaps, entirely new categories appear, and global hiring and distributed teams keep growing as companies search the world for the best people.     The global EOR market, valued at about $4.4B in 2023, is projected to reach roughly $8.6B by 2030, growing ~6–7% a year. Why? Because work is no longer local. Companies want to hire the best person, not the closest one, and EOR has become the bridge between that ambition and the reality of entities, payroll, and compliance. But here is the nuance that gets lost: EOR is not one-size-fits-all, and providers are not interchangeable. A 20-person startup hiring its first engineer in Brazil has very different needs from a multinational consolidating hundreds of workers across 30 countries. Some care most about price. Others prioritize local benefits, integrations, or a provider with owned infrastructure instead of an aggregator model. In that context, “just pick an EOR” is bad advice. We have a lot of respect for the other players pushing this category forward. Competition is what has raised the bar for everyone. Where we believe Borderless AI has an unfair advantage is in three places: 1. Payroll speed and infrastructure: built on modern payment rails for fast, predictable, capital-efficient payroll without clunky pre-funding cycles. 2. Onboarding and ongoing partnership: dedicated support pods that understand your footprint and stay with you as you scale into new markets. 3. AI in the backend, not just the UI: our AI stack powers contracts, classification, and compliance monitoring behind the scenes, giving People and Finance teams faster answers, cleaner data, and fewer surprises. The EOR market has grown because global work is here to stay. The next phase will be defined not by who shouts the loudest, but by who quietly builds the most reliable, intelligent infrastructure for employing people anywhere.
