💀 You're killing your game's performance with unfiltered Raycasts! Most Unity devs don't realize they're scanning EVERY SINGLE OBJECT in their scene with unoptimized casts. Here's why this is horrible: 🔸 Raw Raycast = Check Everything Unity has to process: - All active colliders - Every single layer - Even objects that don't matter! 🎯 How Unity processes Raycasts (Behind the Scenes): 1. Bounding Volume Hierarchy (BVH)   - Unity narrows down the search space   - Uses BVH to exclude objects that are too far   - Excludes objects not in ray direction   - Without LayerMask = Still process everything in path 2. Collider Broadphase Filtering   - Physics engine groups nearby colliders   - Creates broad-phase collision regions   - Without LayerMask = Must process ALL colliders in these regions 3. Narrow Phase Checks   - Unity performs complex math for EACH potential hit   - Calculates exact intersection points   - Computes collision normals   - Determines entry and exit points   - All this math... for objects you don't even care about! 🤦‍♂️ 💡 The Solution? Layer Masks! Curious: Nintendo's initial reveal of the Switch 2 touted 4K, 120FPS, and VRR support. However, a notable change has been spotted on several of Nintendo's official regional websites: the removal of VRR mentions. Digital Foundry's Oliver Mackenzie highlighted this on the Canadian, US, and Japanese sites. As of posting this, the European site still includes this feature at present, suggesting a potential ongoing update across all Nintendo platforms...

First look at NPC interactions in ‘THE WITCHER 4’ from CD Projekt RED. Running on standard PS5 at 60FPS. Wow. On 21 March 2022, CD Projekt announced a partnership with Epic Games after retiring REDengine to use Unreal Engine 5. In April 2022, Studio CTO Paweł Zawodny said that the decision to change engines came down to Unreal Engine 5's new focus on open world game design. Shifting to Unreal Engine 5 also enabled CD Projekt to leave much of the engine-level development to Epic Games, allowing the studio to focus primarily on the game.

Unreal Engine Destruction at Runtime: No Pre-Fracturing Required! This update to my procedural destruction system extends Chaos by removing the need for pre-fracturing. Now, any static or skeletal mesh can be destroyed directly at runtime, with no additional setup. What’s new in this update: - Custom asset storage: fractured data is stored and reused efficiently. - Optimized runtime calculations: destruction runs with minimal overhead. - Multiplayer support: destruction is fully synchronized across clients. Rather than replacing Chaos, the goal is to extend it, keeping the power of Chaos physics while adding a fully runtime-driven workflow that enables more dynamic, emergent gameplay. I’m currently working on structural integrity for physical meshes, so destruction will respond more realistically to forces and support breaking patterns. Any feedback is appreciated! Canada’s New Interactive Digital Media Rules, Why iGaming Should Pay Attention On March 1, 2024, Canada quietly introduced major policy changes under the Investment Canada Act (ICA) that could reshape the future of iGaming. These new rules expand the definition of Interactive Digital Media (IDM) to include online casino games, poker, esports betting, social casino, and other interactive platforms. That means iGaming is now firmly within Canada’s “cultural business” category, triggering much lower thresholds for foreign investment review and much higher scrutiny when foreign-controlled capital is involved. Why this matters now: Ontario’s iGaming market has exploded, $200B in wagers and an $8B industry in just three years. As the sector grows, the Government of Canada is signalling it wants more Canadian control, Canadian IP, and safeguards against “hostile” foreign influence.
