Highly Accelerated 3D Knee Cartilage Imaging using Deep Learning Reconstruction* by Thomas Marth, Dr. med. univ. Three-dimensional (3D) high-spatial-resolution #MRI performed for morphological evaluation of the knee cartilage using double-echo steady-state (DESS) imaging is limited by long acquisition times. With deep-learning (DL) reconstructions now available for 3D imaging as a research package*, this obstacle could soon be overcome. In a recent feasibility study, the authors explored the limits of scan acceleration with different undersampling rates and schemes in combination with DL-based reconstructions: They showed the feasibility of acquiring high-resolution 0.3 mm isotropic DESS knee images within approximately one minute. Here, they present 3D DESS knee images acquired at 7T and 3T. Integrating proton therapy with other treatment modalities under the same roof is essential. This is exactly how technologies evolve: aging equipment gets replaced with the new, seamlessly fitting into the existing workflow. Unfortunately, with many proton systems, this is far from feasible. These systems often require massive, multi-story vaults and typically end up in standalone facilities or separate departments. Luckily, P-Cure is different. Our system is designed to fit into existing vaults, completely changing the paradigm. Right now, our team is preparing for the next installation! The linac has already been decommissioned, the existing vault has been retrofitted with only minor adjustments, and we’re ready to move forward. Soon, doctors in this center will have the flexibility to make clinical decisions based on patient needs—whether it’s photons in one vault, protons in ours, or other modalities available under the same roof.
