Recently, we celebrated an exciting milestone for SCHOTT in Brazil: the relocation of our Flat Glass site from Indaiatuba to Salto. The opening event brought together employees, partners, customers, and representatives from the city of Salto – a moment that marked not just a new address, but our continued commitment to Brazil and the long-term growth of our Flat Glass business. Our new site will serve as a hub for innovation and production, with a focus on two key areas: cold rooms and home appliances. With upgraded infrastructure and expanded capabilities, we’re ready to advance everything from high-quality glass solutions for ovens, cooktops, and refrigerators to energy-efficient systems for refrigeration and food display. Above all, this move strengthens what matters most: the people who make it all possible. Obrigado, Salto — we’re excited for what’s ahead. 🤝✨

A beautiful streak of neon light captured mid-motion — or so it might seem. ✨ However, these radiant lines aren’t for show: they’re precision-engineered glass optical fibers designed to guide light exactly where it’s needed. From automotive ambient lighting to medical diagnostics and industrial sensing, our light guides turn photons into purpose. The side-emitting sidelights shown here open up exciting possibilities in the automotive world, enabling uniform interior and exterior ambient lighting, crisp contours, and distinctive design accents. At the same time, we also support a wide range of applications with light guides that offer high transmission to transport light to the exact spot where it is needed. In endoscopy and surgical illumination, they deliver reliable, homogeneous light for clear visualization. And in industrial automation, they withstand demanding conditions while ensuring stable light transmission for inspection and monitoring systems. 🔬🏭 Their performance comes from ultra-pure specialty glass with high transmission, excellent thermal and chemical resistance, and the flexibility to integrate into complex system designs – proof that what looks like art can become a powerful tool when shaped by optical expertise.

At this year’s annual event of the Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection Networks Initiative (IEEKN), we were honored for our commitment to #sustainability. Our internal network, Effinet@SCHOTT 3.0, received special recognition from the Initiative Energieeffizienz- und Klimaschutz-Netzwerke (IEEKN) Steering Committee for its contributions to energy efficiency and climate protection. Representatives from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection delivered the tribute during a formal ceremony. Matthias Hofmeister and Felix Grimm from our Environmental Protection and Energy Management team accepted the award on behalf of SCHOTT. The recognition shows that SCHOTT’s collective efforts are having a real impact – energy efficiency and climate protection are part of our lived responsibility. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵: ⚙️ Improving efficiency across all production sites 📊 Increasing transparency through targeted energy data 🌍 Scaling best practices globally 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀: 💶 €3.4 million in cost savings ⚡ 42,386 MWh of energy saved through 55 targeted measures ✈️ 11,159 tons of CO₂ equivalents reduced – equal to 3,000 roundtrip flights from Frankfurt to New York We’ve exceeded our original target within the IEEKN framework. And while Effinet@SCHOTT 3.0 has officially concluded, the insights we gained are already shaping future initiatives. A potential next phase is currently under review. This achievement is a strong reminder that sustainable action and business success can go hand in hand - and that together, we can achieve more. Photo: ©Claudius Pflug

🎥 Senkrechtstarter features SCHOTT At the Space Tech Expo Europe last week, our colleagues Janina Krieg and Marc Schneider sat down with Moritz Vieth (a former engineering intern of ours!) to talk about about the material technologies behind current and future astro & space missions. In the conversation, they covered: 🔭 ZERODUR®: how it enables extremely stable mirrors for some of the world’s largest telescopes and why its properties are critical for missions such as Meteosat. ☀️ SCHOTT® Solar Glass exos: our newest cover glass for next-generation space solar cells and the engineering that went into its development. 🧠 Common misconceptions about glass and glass-ceramics and what defines their performance in demanding environments. 🚀 Future developments: which material innovations may have impact on upcoming space applications. If you’re interested in the technical side of optics, materials science, or space systems, the interview is worth a watch. Collaboration drives innovation – and the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM) is taking the next step. The institute has recently officially started the new Glass Panel Technology Group, bringing together industry leaders to drive forward glass-based substrates for advanced packaging, data centers, and high-performance computing. The group aims to create a platform for knowledge and technology development related to glass panel technology, focusing on through-glass vias (TGVs) and reliability testing for next-generation #semiconductor applications. Fifteen companies – from material suppliers to manufacturing companies – join forces with Fraunhofer IZM. At SCHOTT, we are proud to be part of the Glass Panel Technology Group, where we contribute our expertise in glass. Why glass? Compared to other materials, glass offers unique advantages with its thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties, which help boost the efficiency of semiconductors and enable the creation of smaller, higher-performing products. Let‘s shape the future of semiconductor packaging together.
