Emissions are down 54% from 1990 levels — just shy of the 55% target. ↳ ☀️​ In 2024, more electricity was produced from solar & wind energy in the EU than was generated from coal. It's the result of years of investment and action. Renewables are scaling fast, doing the heavy lifting on decarbonization. ↳ 💸​ Banks like Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM) - Europe’s largest single shareholder, with stakes in over 9,000 companies across 70 countries holding around 1.5% of all globally listed equities and managing €1.5 trillion in assets – have clear ESG expectations. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐭, 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰: ✅ Set climate targets - best science-based net zero targets by 2050, including Scope 3 emissions ✅ Have a clear governance and board oversight of climate performance ✅ Establish quantitative transition plans to effectively reduce emissions, aligned with the company's core business model 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟎: What literally with a laptop and a crazy idea in the middle of COVID is more important today than ever. ↳ It's no longer about the "if," but rather the "how." ↳ The climate transformation is already here – accelerated by digital technologies, data, AI, and, yes, regulations. ↳ No company can continue to do business without reducing emissions. It's only possible together, since more than 50% of global GHG are generated in supply chains.  $50 deepfake app just beat your bank's million-dollar security system. At #FIBE25, I asked Georg Hauer about AI in banking. He didn't sugarcoat it: "Criminals are and will use AI in banking." Last year proved him right: ↳ 1,740% surge in deepfake attacks on North American banks ↳ 85-95% success rate against biometric security ↳ 50% of all fraud now involves AI ↳ $670K extra cost per AI-enabled breach Think about that. Your face unlocks your banking app. Criminals clone it from your LinkedIn photo. Your voice authorizes transfers. They recreate it from your podcast interview. That video call verifying your identity? Could be anyone, anywhere. Traditional Bank Security: ↳ Biometrics assumed unfakeable ↳ Voice patterns seemed unique ↳ Video calls meant proof ↳ Multi-factor felt bulletproof Today's Reality: ↳ Deepfakes fool facial recognition ↳ Voice clones pass authentication ↳ Real-time video manipulation works ↳ Every layer compromised But here's what stopped me cold: While banks deploy AI defenses, their own employees use "shadow AI" — unauthorized ChatGPT for customer data. Creating vulnerabilities from inside. 80% of bank cybersecurity leaders can't keep pace. Criminals update their tools daily. Banks update quarterly. The speed difference kills them. “Thanks to the recent popularity of deeptech startups and some hefty raises from a couple of big startups, Bavaria raised more money in 2024 than those in Berlin.” Munich's always felt like more of a real tech ecosystem than Berlin, and with better upside potential. The building blocks there (TUM, LMU, corporates, etc.) make for a more solid foundation than what Berlin has. "Our startup contracts 1:1 with health insurers. € 1.5b TAM just in Germany." Sure, but: ... How many insurers can you close during a VC fund's lifetime? ... How broad will the reimbursement be (risk groups, regions, ...)? ... How many patients can you activate across these insurers? Contracting with individual insurers (in Germany: Selektivverträge) sounds like broad market access. Yet, most VCs struggle with these cases. Why?
