DFG approves two new Collaborative Research Centers/Transregios with TUD participation covering agile mobility and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease 🔬 Outstanding success for #TUDresden researchers: In the latest Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - German Research Foundation funding round, the establishment of the Collaborative Research Center CRC/Transregio 408 "AgiMo: Data-driven agile planning for responsible mobility" at TU Dresden and Technische Universität München has now been approved. The joint application of the CRC/Transregio 412 "Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease: Translating mechanisms to tailored therapeutic concepts" of Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin - FU and HU Berlin along with TU Dresden was also successful. ✈️⚡ #𝐅𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐧 #𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 - 𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 At last week’s EFCF - European Electrolyser and Fuel Cell Forum in Lucerne, the team from our institute at Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V., Dr. Christoph Gentner and Florian Becker together with Airbus colleagues Farid Quaium and Dr. - Ing. Leonard Liphardt, presented a novel idle management strategy for fuel cell-powered aircraft — tested on a 20-cell short stack under realistic lab conditions. 🧩Key challenge: Maintaining stable, low-power operation during descent, a phase with low current density (0.1–0.4 A/cm²), reduced pressure (1000–750 mbar), and no humidification. 💡Key insights: 🔹 Dry, low-pressure operation risks stack degradation and local failures. 🔹Humidity and air stoichiometry critically impact stack stability and degradation. 🔹Adaptive control of temperature, pressure, and airflow can dynamically stabilize operation without extra hardware. 🔹This strategy also works as a drying protocol for cold starts. 💡Conclusion: Precise operational management enables stable, efficient, and long-lasting fuel cell systems even in challenging flight phases — paving the way for adaptive control in future #PEM fuel cell #aviation #applications.
