Carless in America: Feels *very* weird
I bought our latest car - the Infiniti EX35 to the right - around three years ago. Before that, there was a succession of Porsches, BMWs, Audis (very very briefly, and only till the catastrophic oil-leak from hell was discovered), and even an Olds Toronado (455, FTW!) back when. In fact, come to think of it, I've had one car or the other since 1988, which, coincidentally, is when I came to the US. And now... And now... And now, I don't. We moved to Brooklyn around 5 months ago, and the one thing that became immediately apparent was that the cost of keeping a car out here was fairly stratospheric. Between insurance and parking, we were out $600/month. Yup. 6 - 0 - 0 Dollars/month! On top of that, we never even used the damn thing, pretty much taking mass-transit everywhere, or in a pinch, taking a cab.
