Accessibility means creating spaces where everyone can participate and feel valued – no matter their ability. #InternationalDayofPersonswithDisabilities For Joyce and her daughter Aline, this made a real difference as they prepared for resettlement to Sweden from Rwanda in IOM's Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO). Aline, who is hard of hearing, was supported by a sign language interpreter throughout the sessions. Disability inclusion in PDO is not just about interpreters; it’s about adapting the whole experience so no one is left behind. IOM’s Cross-Cultural Facilitators, like Lilian, make sure every activity is adapted to the participants' needs. ➡ Read the full story: iom.fi/IDPD2025 🤝 Swedish Migration Agency IOM - UN Migration | IOM Europe and Central Asia #IDPD2025

IOM has been promoting safe, regular and dignified migration since 1951.
Om os
Established in 1951, IOM is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. With 175 member states, a further 8 states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. IOM is part of the United Nations system, as a related organization. IOM supports migrants across the world, developing effective responses to the shifting dynamics of migration and, as such, is a key source of advice on migration policy and practice. The organization works in emergency situations, developing the resilience of all people on the move, and particularly those in situations of vulnerability, as well as building capacity within governments to manage all forms and impacts of mobility. Since the adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in 2018, IOM coordinates the secretariat of the United Nations Network on Migration (UNNM) which ensures effective, timely and coordinated UN system-wide support to Member States.

🎥 Invitation to an IOM & UNEP event in UN City Copenhagen on 16 December! With rising heat, drought, and heavy rain in Africa, how do farmers stay resilient and how does this impact #migration? 🌱 In 2012, Kisilu, a Kenyan farmer, started capturing the life of his family, his village, and the daily realities of climate change on camera. 🎬 This December, just weeks after #COP30 in Belém and in marking #InternationalMigrantsDay, join us for a #docUNight screening of the award-winning documentary #ThankYouForTheRain in which a violent storm brings Kisilu and a Norwegian filmmaker together, and he starts his journey from a father to community leader to global activist. A decade after the signing of the #ParisAgreement, dive into a conversation on the critical links between human mobility and #ClimateChange with: 💬 Kisilu Musuya – farmer, filmmaker, climate fighter, and video diarist 💬 Julia Dahr – filmmaker and activist 💬 Rose Kobusinge – IOM-AU Youth Ambassador and Ugandan advocate on Migration, Environment, and Climate Change 💬 Giorgia Rega – Programme Manager at IOM Denmark 💬 Henry Neufeldt – Head of Impact Assessment & Adaptation and Chief Scientific Editor of UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre’s Adaptation Gap Report ✅ Save your free spot to join us on 16 December at 17:30–19:45: https://shorturl.at/XnUFr 🖼️ At the event, you can explore a #PhotoExhibition by IOM featuring communities in Mauritania and how droughts, sudden floods, and environmental degradation impact the decision of people to migrate – or to adapt in place – as traditional livelihoods become harder to sustain.

Last Friday, IOM Denmark had the pleasure of welcoming a group of interns from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to UN City Copenhagen. The visit featured engaging discussions on current migration trends, IOM’s work globally and locally, and the important intersections between #migration, #health, and #gender. During the presentation, IOM Denmark highlighted how migration impacts societies across continents and how IOM works to ensure safe, humane, and orderly migration – with a strong focus on upholding migrants’ rights, fostering inclusion, and contributing to sustainable development. The interns also gained insights into how #partnerships and evidence-based solutions are essential for addressing complex challenges while also creating opportunities for migrants and host communities. Thanks to GIZ for the interest and thoughtful questions.

At the 18th EPH Conference in Helsinki 🇫🇮 (11–14 Nov 2025), Marc Gallego Garcia from the WHO/Europe’s Health and Migration Programme, Elena Val from International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Sabrina Montante from the European Commission presented key achievements from the EU-funded joint project supporting refugees and displaced people from Ukraine. The session showcased how participating countries are enabling displaced health workers from Ukraine🇺🇦to continue their medical professions—helping restore careers, strengthening national health systems, and ensuring critical expertise is not lost. WHO/Europe is working with EU Health and Food Safety, and IOM Europe and Central Asia and IOM Global Office Brussels, to support countries in improving access to health-care services for refugees and displaced people from Ukraine. Among those forced to leave their homes are doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, people who hold the knowledge and skills to protect and save lives every day. The project gives them the opportunity to continue their vital work in the countries that now host them. International co-operation is essential to ensuring humane and effective approaches to #return and #reintegration. 🤝🌍 Yesterday, IOM Finland, Maahanmuuttovirasto - Migrationsverket - Finnish Immigration Service and Swedish Migration Agency hosted an Embassy Seminar in Helsinki. The event brought together representatives from embassies, Finnish and Swedish governments, and other stakeholders to reflect on current trends and future needs for Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (#AVRR). Since 2000, AVRR programmes from Finland and Sweden have supported over 22,000 migrants to return home safely and rebuild their lives after their return. Building on this experience, the speakers highlighted the need for better data to understand return intentions, as well as the importance of coordinated information sharing between countries in a rapidly changing migration context. Earlier this week, Rana Utvikling AS, Osloregionen – Oslo Region Alliance, and IOM - UN Migration officially launched “Moving to Norway — Orientation for International Workers”, a new digital course designed to help international workers and their families in navigating everyday life, working, and accessing essential services in Norway. Following the opening remarks, the organizers reflected on the broader need to strengthen support systems for newcomers, explaining how the idea for the e-course emerged from the need of clearer and more accessible information. The Norwegian Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Bjørnar Selnes Skjæran highlighted the value of the new resource, setting the tone for a dynamic panel discussion with representatives from the diplomatic community, academia, and the private sector on strengthening inclusion and retaining international talent across Norway. A warm thank you to all participants for their energy, engagement, and contributions for the event. 🙌 Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development | IOM Nordics | IOM Europe and Central Asia

💭 “I learned that resettlement is very carefully planned to help refugees move safely to their new home country.” Last Friday on #ChildrensDayAtWork, IOM Finland welcomed the children of our staff to see where their parents work, and learn about the different ways IOM supports migrants. From crafting paper travel buddies to designing welcome posters for children arriving in Finland, the day was full of creativity, learning, and fresh perspectives – for both kids and adults. Children’s Day at Work is an initiative that connects children with workplaces and sparks curiosity about working life. It is organized annually in Finland during Children’s Rights Week. ➡ lapsetmukaantoihin.fi/en #LapsetMukaanTöihin #LapsenOikeuksienViikko IOM Europe and Central Asia
