OVERVIEW The sample design in this directory shows the code coverage merge functionality. The design is available in a VHDL version. The unit under test controls the movement of a pointer on a board. The pointer can move one square in any direction horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Movements are controlled by a state machine generated by a graphical design entry tool. One control input is associated with each movement direction (left, right, up, and down). More than one input can be active at a time. Except for the four direction inputs, the machine also has a reset input and a clock input. Each possible movement direction is associated with one function (e.g. moveUp, moveUpRight, etc.). The functions are located either in the TestbenchUtilities package in file tbutils.vhd (VHDL). Four testbenches are provided for testing the control unit. The goal of the test is to achieve complete code coverage. None of the testbenches reaches complete code coverage on its own, however, information derived from individual testbenches does not allow you to assess the quality of the testsuite as a whole. The testsuite can be assessed by combining code coverage statistics for individual testbenches into a single set of data. Merged code coverage results displayed in the Code Coverage Viewer as if they were collected in a single simulation. If a line or a statement is shown as covered, that implies that it was executed at least once in at least one simulation. If it is not covered, then none of the testbenches was able to make the simulator reach that particular section of the source code. ___________________________ (c) Aldec, Inc. All rights reserved.
