1. Alcance
1.1 Esta especificacin define los requisitos para granulometra y calidad de agregado fino y grueso (distinto
de agregado liviano o pesado) para utilizar en concreto.
1.2 Esta especificacin es para ser utilizada por un contratista, proveedor de concreto, u otro comprador
como parte de un documento de compra que describe el material a proveer.
NOTA 1Esta especificacin es considerada como adecuada para asegurar materiales satisfactorios para la
mayora de losconcretos. Se reconoce que, para ciertos trabajos o en ciertas regiones, puede ser ms o
menos restrictiva que lo necesario. Por ejemplo, donde lo esttico es importante, lmites ms restrictivos
pueden ser considerados atendiendo a las impurezas que ensuciaran la superficie del concreto. El
especificador debera comprobar que los agregados especificados estn o pueden estar disponibles en el
rea de la obra, con respecto a la granulometra, propiedades fsicas o qumicas o combinacin de ellas.
1.3 Esta especificacin es tambin para ser utilizada en especificaciones de proyecto para definir la calidad
del agregado, el tamao nominal mximo del agregado, y otros requisitos de granulometra especficos. Los
responsables de seleccionar la dosificacin para la mezcla del concreto deben tener la responsabilidad de
determinar la dosificacin de agregado fino y grueso y la adicin de tamaos de agregados para combinar
si se requiere o aprueba.
1.4 Los valores dados ya sea en unidades SI o en unidades pulgada-libra son considerados separadamente
como valores estndares. Los valores dados en cada sistema pueden no ser exactamente equivalentes; por
ello, cada sistema debe ser usado independientemente del otro. La combinacin de valores de los dos
sistemas puede resultar en una no conformidad con la norma.
