The oil pressure is regulated by means ofthe spring tension on the pressure contol
valve. The normal working ol pressure atthe working temperature is between 485 and
Sar a the engine inlet for nominal speeds from 720 to 1000 rpm. (For 6-8DZC and
12-t6vDz¢)
‘The monitoring ofthe oil pressure is executed automaticaly by means ofa mechanical
oil pressure safety device which causes the engine o stop ifthe ol presire falls below
1.4 bar. (For 6-8D7C and 12-16VDZ0)
‘Adsiional clues supervision sb povided wid : (For 6-8DZC and 12-16VDZC)

During fing of the engine the oil pressure falls at lower value (pressure depending
speed and cylinder number ~ See General DZC / VBZC) with the ol atthe working
temperature Ifthe ol pressure falls during normal working the cause may be:
~ fouled ol ites examine the state ofthe servicing indicator.
+ maladjusted pressure regulating valve
+ for other defectssee Chapter “Engine fault.

Regularly inspect te oil level in the ol tank or sump; replenish if necessary.

“The oll consumption can be measured approximately by measuring the level ofthe oi
inthe tank ata determined time, For example, time O level A.
Later, at P hours, measure the oll evel inthe tank and adda quantity of ol, for example
X ies, uni the level Ais reached apain te oil consumptionis then in keh

Example
-Attwoo'elock, the level in the ol tank is measured (evel A).
[At fouroelock, 2 lites of ol ar added to reach the level A agai,
Tre oil consumption is then
1.900%) 6 0900 keth
G3)
‘Such a measurement is only valid if, during the period between the times © and P, the
load, aswell asthe oil temperature have remeined practically constant.
2nd msthod
Over a longer period, the oil consumption can also be messured approximately by
noting the numberof running hours, necessary for passing from maximum level to
‘minimum level
Increased oil consumption canbe a consequence of
= oil leaks (mos frequent cause)
wear of piston ring, liners
5. Fouling ofthe fers
The switchable triplex lites are provided with servicing indicators
[As soon asthe half-way mavk ofthe red section is reached, the fiers clogged
An inspection of the engine, effected regularly, will discover any early leaks, which
will avoid any further oss of oilcea ‘PERATING MANUAL (V)DZC ENGINE (Chaster 4]

eis advisable to verify regularly the condition ofthe oi, namely
Viscosity (tracing thinning or thickening)
{otal base number (TBN)
degree of detegeney
= content of inslbles
specto-analysis (metals)
These analyses nay be cated out every 1500 hours by an arrangement with the oi
supplier. It are hese analyses that alo indicate when the oil must be replaced, and in
this way, the prescribed period for changing the ol at 3000 hours can usally be
exceeded
In view ofthe fac that itis not always possible to have analyses made, and in view of
the fact that thes are sometimes eather time-consuming, test kts are available by the
‘il suppliers for determining the condition of the oil, on ste, quickly and by the

42.10, PREHEATING OF THE ENGINE OIL LUBRICATING CIRCUIT
Preheatng ofthe engine ol circuit might be necessary fr automatic starting genses
In this case preheating-prelubricting module is necessary This module consists of @
‘motopump group and a heat exchanger for preheating the lubricating oil and also the
cooling wate. This module replaces the pre-libricting pup,
‘The supervision on this system consists of
~ ol pressure
oil emperture
= i leaks
‘Theil temperature i a consequence ofthe HT water temperature. The temperature is
‘monitored on HT water side
‘An inspection atthe ol lubricating module, effected regularly, wil discover any early
leaks.
