🌳 From Ground to Orbit: Monitoring Water and Forests for Climate Adaptation The One Water Vision (OWV) Initiative was also part of the #COP30 side event “From Ground to Orbit: Combining In-Situ and Satellite Monitoring of #Water and #Forest Resources for Climate Adaptation”, co-organized by Partenariat français pour l'eau - French Water Partnership, International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO/RIOB), and Comifac RDC. 🌱 Forests play a crucial role in the water cycle and climate resilience. This event explored how combining Earth observation and field expertise can strengthen ecosystem management and inform sustainable decisions. Experts from INRAE, IRD, CNES, ESA, JAXA, and the WMO shared use cases on satellite applications for forest moisture detection, evapotranspiration, biomass estimation, and reforestation monitoring. Together, we are turning space-based innovation into actionable knowledge for sustainable resource management. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/epfaee_x #OneWaterVision #Forests #ClimateAction #Satellites #EarthObservation #DataForClimate

70% of rain water comes from evaporation from forests and soil: COP30 is as much about forests as it is about water💧🌳 In the heart of the Amazon, we strengthened policies in favor of our three forest basins. I particularly commend the Belem Call by heads of State and government: https://shorturl.at/9mb0O The Country Packages “Forests, Nature, Climate” and the One Forest Vision show us the way forward: the benefits of these partnerships for forests are limitless both for human and economic development. 🤝 Forests also provide us with green water. 🌱💦 Water is at the crossroad of all our sectors, and thus must be at the heart of adaptation and mitigation policies. I was able to raise these priorities in Belem, with Ministers gathered by Brazil 🇧🇷 on water and climate action, as part of the Baku Water Dialogue 🇦🇿 and by supporting key initiatives such as the One Water Vision and the Initiatives pour l'Avenir des Grands Fleuves (IAGF). 60% of drinking water comes from our melting glaciers. 🏔️ Ultimately, the melting of the cryosphere is half the cause of rising sea levels. 🌊 The entire water cycle calls for a solid action plan. In line with the #OneWaterSummit and ahead of the United Nations Water Conference 🇺🇳, we must build a roadmap that highlights concrete levers for action, for better water governance at all levels. The COP continues with the ambitious French team! 🇫🇷🇪🇺
