“Elevating the future of Europe through space.” These words epitomize the 2025 ESA Ministerial Council, held in Bremen, Germany, in the presence of Member States' ministers.   Thales Alenia Space wishes to congratulate the bold decisions made by the European Space Agency, governments, national agencies, and delegations for securing major programs that are key for Europe in the fields of satellite navigation, telecommunications, sciences, exploration, space transportation and security.   The space sector has indisputably emerged as a fundamental pillar for safeguarding the continent’s sovereignty, technological leadership, and competitive stature on the global stage, and security, with the return of conflicts at Europe's doorstep.   Agreements reached on programmatic priorities and associated financial commitments for the forthcoming three years amount to €22 billion — a significant increase compared to 2022.   At Thales Alenia Space, we are willing to deploy our full range of expertise and capabilities to address the whole array of relevant programs, from Earth to the Moon, Mars and beyond!   A new era is underway — committed, ambitious, and European. 🇫🇷 Thales Alenia Space est fière de participer à la 4ème édition des rencontres du Spatial en Région Provence-Alpes Côte d’Azur, organisée aujourd’hui au sein du Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. Pour l’occasion, la ville de Cannes a accueilli les forces vives du spatial français et européen, à quelques kilomètres seulement de notre site Cannois, fleuron de l’excellence de la filière spatiale française et européenne. L’établissement cannois de Thales Alenia Space bénéficie d’une expertise longue de 50 années dans le secteur spatial et s’illustre dans les domaines de l’observation de la Terre, des télécommunications, de l’exploration spatiale, des missions scientifiques et des infrastructures orbitales. Ses 15000m2 de salles blanches font de ce site industriel l’un des plus grands centres européens dédiés aux activités d’assemblage, d’intégration et de tests effectués sur les satellites. Ce site abrite également un centre optique dédié à la réalisation d’instruments à très haute résolution, référence européenne dans ce domaine. Tout au long de la journée, nos équipes participeront à plusieurs tables rondes et présenteront nos dernières solutions à l’ensemble des participants : des satellites de télécommunications numériques reconfigurables à ceux consacrés à la veille environnementale en passant par les systèmes de surveillance, sans oublier notre plateforme stratosphérique autonome multi missions ultra-innovante, Stratobus. For the occasion, the city of Cannes welcomed the driving forces behind the French and European space industries, just a few kilometers from our Cannes site, the flagship of excellence in the French and European space sector. Thales Alenia Space's Cannes facility has 50 years of expertise related to space activities and is renowned in the fields of Earth observation, telecommunications, space exploration, scientific missions and orbital infrastructure. Its 15,000 m² of clean rooms make this industrial site one of Europe's largest centers dedicated to satellite assembly, integration and testing. The site also houses an optical center dedicated to the production of very high-resolution instruments, which is a European benchmark in this field. Throughout the day, our teams take part to different panels and will present our latest solutions to all participants: from reconfigurable digital telecommunications satellites to environmental monitoring ones and surveillance systems, not to mention our ultra-innovative autonomous multi-mission stratospheric platform, Stratobus. 🚀 Sentinel-1D Delivers Its First Stunning Images: From Antarctica to Bremen in Less Than 50 Hours After Launch. At the European Space Agency - ESA’s Ministerial Council, the first high-resolution images from the newly launched Copernicus Sentinel-1D satellite were unveiled, showcasing impressive views of Antarctica’s glaciers, the tip of South America, and the city of Bremen.   These images are more than visually striking: they mark a technical achievement without precedent. The satellite was activated, acquired data, and downlinked it to Earth in record time, setting a new benchmark for space-based radar observation.   We are proud that our technology is performing exactly as intended, meeting ESA and European Commission’s expectations: a powerful demonstration of Thales Alenia Space ability to turn vision into results.   🌍 Sentinel-1D’s first images remind us of the fragility of Earth’s glaciers and the importance of reliable, timely data to support science-based decisions and policies. Physicien et professeur à l’Université Paris Sud (Orsay), Julien Bobroff est une personnalité influente sur les réseaux sociaux. 🚀 Fair winds to the third COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation satellite!   The satellite has officially departed from Thales Alenia Space’s facilities in Rome and is now on its way to the Vandenberg launch site, in California.   This journey represents the beginning of its final step toward orbit.   The COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation mission is designed to deliver unprecedented Earth-observation capabilities. Equipped with advanced SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) technology, the satellite will provide high-resolution, all-weather, day-and-night imaging to support environmental monitoring, security, emergency response, and scientific research.   This ambitious program is funded by the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana and the Italian Ministero della Difesa, with Thales Alenia Space acting as prime contractor, Leonardo Space providing the solar panels, star trackers plus additional key equipment, and Telespazio handling the ground segment and operations. It is the result of a strong national partnership and the dedication of an exceptional industrial team.   👏 A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved for reaching this major achievement.   It is not a goodbye… Looking forward to seeing our beloved satellite in orbit!  🌍 Onward to launch! Stratobus exposé au Palais de l’Elysée! Thales et Thales Alenia Space sont fières de participer à la 5ème édition de la Grande Exposition du Fabriqué en France, qui se tient à l’Elysée du 15 au 16 novembre 2025. Aux côtés de nombreuses entreprises, artisans, producteurs et industriels pleinement engagés dans la valorisation du savoir-faire français, nous avons le plaisir de présenter #Stratobus, notre plateforme stratosphérique autonome et innovante. Ce projet s’inscrit dans la stratégie du Ministère des Armées pour la Très Haute Altitude dévoilée en juin dernier : la France entend occuper activement cette zone avec des plateformes nationales, dans une logique de #souveraineté technologique. Avec une couverture régionale permanente, Stratobus est le complément idéal d’une solution par satellite. Destiné à des applications civiles et/ou militaires, ce dirigeable autonome pourra embarquer des missions de type surveillance des frontières et de sites critiques sur terre comme sur mer, de sécurité militaire (lutte contre le terrorisme, les trafics de stupéfiants), mais aussi de veille environnementale (feux de forêts, érosion des plages, pollutions …) et de télécommunications (internet, 5G).
