Following the #JPM25 conference, I had the pleasure to discuss with the French newspaper Le Monde about the outlook for healthcare innovation in 2025. The sector remains strong, driven by structural growth factors that keep us optimistic for 2025, while also encouraging selectivity. First key factor : major pharmaceutical companies are facing the expiration of key patents and, in some cases, the loss of exclusivity, leading to a projected revenue loss of $400 billion by 2033. To rebuild their pipelines, these companies are turning to acquisitions of the most innovative biopharma players, with over $1 trillion in cash ready to be deployed. Second, several therapeutic areas are thriving, and many startups have achieved promising scientific breakthroughs. Oncology, Immuno-Oncology, and advancements in our understanding of the nervous system continue to generate significant investment opportunities. New regulations have also reactivated certain therapeutic fields, such as cardiology, while societal shifts—including an aging population, the fight against obesity, and declining fertility—are opening new avenues for therapeutic exploration. This year, JEITO has decided to invest in two of them: Aviceda Therapeutics in ophthalmology, which secured an upsized $207.5 million Series C financing, and XyloCor Therapeutics, Inc., developing groundbreaking gene therapies for cardiovascular diseases, with a $67.5 million Series B financing.
