To be able to look at a map layer without other clutter from the website (like opening an image in a new tab).

Also, to be able to layer together maps from different sources.

I'd love to see picture-in-picture (PIP) for maps. Is it suitable to discuss here?

@Malvoz I suspect it deserves its own issue. I believe it should be an objective to accommodate map-in-map in a couple of ways, although I admit I haven't read up on picture-in -picture and only know about it as an average or perhaps not quite up to average TV user.

I can see a popup or slide out containing the properties of a map feature containing a map. I could also see the use case for a location map linked to a parent map. Are these possible examples of map-in-map?

More generally, shouldn't it be possible to use the map as the rendering environment of any* HTML/SVG element, if the location of those elements can be managed with CSS? There are a few use cases in the latter scenario, I think.

  • including maps, video etc, but excluding what doesn't make sense TBD.
