Microdata link in TOC leads to http://developers.whatwg.org/links.html

I find this confusing, I was expecting to find information about Microdata. Now, it is on that page, at http://developers.whatwg.org/links.html#microdata, but it'd be better if the TOC could better match what it's linked to.

I fixed this in the spec splitter used for the main spec a while back:

If you're lucky, just using the updated script and running your usual script might to the trick.

Great stuff. I have a slightly modified version of the spec splitter to deal with some crazy (unique to my spec) issues I was seeing back in January… I'll see if I can pull, patch and repair today.

FYI, not sure what I did in the first commit when I added it to the repo, but here is the brief history.

Ok. I pulled from upstream and the navigation was inserted at the wrong point; I then added omit_optional_tags (shown bd4776c#html5-tools/spec-splitter/spec-splitter.py) and the splitter appears to be working as advertised.

I'll make a commit, build and deploy now. Hopefully it doesn't cause any issues.

Just pointing out that a fixed page splitting + TOC on main page would help a lot when navigating developers.whatwg.org and when linking to specific sections. E.g. I wanted to link to “4.13 Common idioms without dedicated elements” and had to look at the HTML source to build the following link (which doesn’t make much sense):

(Sorry for the noise. I looked for a way to star this issue, vote for it or any similar “discrete” action but apparently there is none.)

FYI, using the search feature will create the links for you too…
Now, in terms of the splitter, there isn't a lot that I can do without getting considerably dirty—@foolip might be able to provide some assistance or make recommendations as to the best course of action.

Most of the 4.x subsection have their own page, but do we want a separate page for both "Common idioms without dedicated elements" and "Matching HTML elements using selectors"?

@foolip, yes, I'm using the same splitter code, last updated on July 29th (see above comment).
The 'common idioms' section does seem somewhat out of place on the links.html page—what do you think?

I guess both can be split into separate pages, but both common-idioms-without-dedicated-elements.html and matching-html-elements-using-selectors.html are rather long names. If you can get Hixie to add id="common-idioms" and id="something-short" to the sections then I could make the spec splitter change to match.
