Interoperable createDevMiddleware that also works with Web Standards

I'd would be great if we could find a way to make createDevMiddleware interoperable, to not only work as a Connect/Express middleware, but also work as a middleware for any framework based on Web Standards like Hono, Elysia, etc...

Example syntax:

import { Hono } from 'hono'
import { createDevMiddleware } from 'vike/server'

const app = new Hono()

app.use(createDevMiddleware())

Yes, that's very much our goal.

The current blocker is Vite's createServer() which returns a Connect middleware. See Vite > JavaScript API > createServer.

We are currently working on Vike extensions (vike-express, vike-hono, vike-h3, ...) that will automatically integrate all that.

In the meantime, you can use Bati to scaffold a Vike app with any server you want.

Closing as createDevMiddleware() is just a small wrapper o top of Vite's createServer(); it's a Vite issue not a Vike one.

Yeah, at the moment I can't make it work with Bun. I don't need any fancy server framework while bun is just convenient. But bun works with Request and Response types, and createDevMiddleware returns framework-binded types, which is really frustrating.

@elite174 I know that the Vite team is very much interested in returning something more agnostic than a Connect middleware. Actually, the Vike team is developing tools (most notably https://github.com/magne4000/universal-middleware) that will enable Vite to do just that. It's still early though, so it's going to take a little while.

In the meantime things should work with Bun, since Bun is Node.js compatible.

Yes, thanks for the updates! Today i started migration of one app, so I already used universal middleware for this, but i had some issues with hmr. I'll try to fix it though.
