Author of The Responsible Globalist (Penguin, 2019), which first introduced the concept of a “global nation” as a framework for envisioning the future of international cooperation. Hassan spent a decade at the Gates Foundation where he was Deputy Director of Global Policy & Advocacy, and led the Middle East and East Asia teams. He was a cofounder and board member of the the Global Institute of Disease Elimination, and the $2bn Lives & Livelihoods Fund, the largest truly multilateral development initiative ever based in the Middle East. Before Gates, Hassan spent 5 years at McKinsey & Co. designing education system reforms. He graduated from Oxford and Harvard.

Cara is an economist who has led various strategic advisory projects for international development clients. Most notably, she supported the Gates Foundation to design a proposal for COP28 in UAE thatresulted in a $200 million partnership for food systems, agricultural innovations, and climate action. She also helped facilitate a Bellagio convening for the Rockefeller Foundation on institutionalizing climate services for health and co-authored the report “Urban Climate-Health Action”. Prior to joining GN, Cara worked in strategy at a climate tech startup (Leko Labs) and at McKinsey & Co. where she published a framework for US states to budget COVID-19 fiscal gaps while protecting vulnerable populations. Cara holds an MBA from London Business School and an MA Economics from the University of Toronto. She is fluent in French and learning Spanish.

Anna has twelve years’ experience in strategic communications and policy influencing. Prior to joining Global Nation Anna worked as a consultant providing strategic advice and practical support to multilateral and government agencies and INGOs on advocacy and communications to help clients achieve greater impact. She also spent eight years leading external relations for Development Initiatives (DI), a global organisation focused on improving the quality, uptake and use of data in development. Earlier in her career Anna was based in Palestine working with a community-led Human Rights Organisation on documenting human rights abuses and supporting local activists with how to effectively engage Western media. Anna holds an MRes in Global Political Economy from the University of Bristol and BSc Economics and Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

Michael Stephens specialises in Foreign Affairs and International Development, with a focus on the Middle East. He is also a Senior Fellow at RAND Europe and RUSI, focusing on security studies in the Middle East. Michael has previously served as Senior Research Analyst at the Foreign Office with a focus on Lebanon and Syria.

Joshua Glasser joined Global Nation in March 2025, after 12 years serving in several global health and climate change related roles at the White House and the U.S. Department of State. Josh has worked on a variety of “One Health” (human-animal-environment nexus) initiatives, including in the Arctic region, the Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa, and India, as well as in multilateral organizations. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in political science and public policy analysis. He holds a Master of Science in Global Health and Population from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He has also studied as a Fulbright Scholar in Vietnam (2007-2008). His work has been recognized through Superior Honor and Meritorious Honor Awards from the U.S. Department of State, as well as a Director’s Award from the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health.

Juria has over four years of experience in the social impact and development sector. Prior to joining Global Nation, she worked at an impact advisory firm, collaborating with partners across various areas, including philanthropy, global health, and diplomacy, while contributing to the firm’s knowledge of climate finance. She is also a non-resident fellow at Nepal Institute for Policy Research, where she researches development issues pertinent to Nepal, including remittances, migration, and competitiveness. Juria holds a BA in Economics from New York University Abu Dhabi (NYU Abu Dhabi).

Muhammad has extensive experience in strategy consulting, policy advisory, and economic research. Prior to joining Global Nation, he worked at Bain & Company and advised clients on strategy development, social impact, and corporate turnaround projects across sectors including agriculture, natural resources, and private equity. At Frontier Economics, Muhammad collaborated with public and private sector clients on policy development and economic regulation in infrastructure, financial services, and transport. As a Research Assistant at the Bank of England, he has also contributed to research on inflation, labour market dynamics, and monetary policy. Muhammad holds an MSc in Financial Economics from Birkbeck, University of London and a BSc in Economics from the University of Exeter.

Laura Chambers brings over five years of experience as a freelance professional, specialising in online administrative support for more than 140 clients across the globe. Prior to joining Global Nation, she developed a strong track record in managing complex schedules, streamlining operations, and supporting remote teams in fast-paced environments.

Paty Alemañy brings a professional background specialising in international relations and social impact. With a career spanning various roles, she has actively contributed to the development of the Global Public Investment (GPI) concept, managed significant projects, and co-authored publications driving positive change. Her experience includes collaborating with multiple United Nations offices and CSOs, where she has honed skills in research, project coordination, and social media management. She studied International Relations at UDELAR in Uruguay and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in International Economics and Development at Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Melissa joins Global Nation with a background blending strategic consulting experience at top global firms with an academic foundation in the social sciences. Most recently, she was an International Growth Consultant at Google, where she advised a diverse portfolio of global clients on their international expansion strategies. Before Google, as a consultant at McKinsey and Company, she helped define the monetization and governance models for a new public-private partnership for gender equality, coordinating efforts across more than 70 organizations nationwide. Her experience also includes an internship with the Mission of Panama to the United Nations in New York City. Melissa holds a Master’s in Digital Business and Innovation and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology.
