From #LegacyInfrastructure To #100XCapacity: #SCL Set to Power India’s #SemiconductorFuture #IESA applauds the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for its landmark announcement to invest ₹4,500 crore in modernising The #SemiconductorLaboratory (#SCL), Mohali, a pivotal step toward strengthening India’s trusted and strategic semiconductor ecosystem. During their visit to SCL, Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw accompanied by Mr. Amitesh Kumar Sinha, CEO, India Semiconductor Mission (#ISM), reviewed the ongoing progress and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment. Shri Kamaljeet Singh, #DirectorGeneral, SCL Mohali, provided a detailed walkthrough of the facility’s current operations and modernisation plans. Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw stated: “A big journey for SCL Mohali lies ahead & India is ready for it.” Welcoming the development, Mr. ashok chandak President, IESA, said: “The Government of India’s commitment to modernising SCL is a crucial step in strengthening India’s semiconductor foundation. Close coordination between the Centre and the #PunjabGovernment is essential to ensure timely land allotment and clearances. A modernised 180 nm facility with #100XCapacity can unlock new business opportunities, support India’s fabless ecosystem, and build confidence for #FutureUpgrades to #AdvancedNodes.” He further emphasised: “A modern SCL can play a transformative role for India’s #Deeptech and #SemiconductorStartups by supporting #PilotProduction, small-volume fabrication and early-stage #Prototyping, turning ideas into market-ready products faster, locally and securely. This capability is vital for India’s strategic needs, especially in #Defence, #Aerospace, #Space and other sensitive sectors that require trusted, indigenous #SemiconductorManufacturing.” SCL could evolve into a #NationalTraining and #CapacityBuilding centre, providing #EDAToolAccess, hands-on #WorkforceDevelopment, and strong collaboration with #Academia and #Industry to build India’s future #SemiconductorTalentPool. #StablePolicy and #FiscalSupport under the India Semiconductor Mission will enable SCL to scale, integrate with India’s broader supply chain, and contribute to the nation’s export and innovation goals. IESA Applauds the Government’s Landmark Step toward Tech #SelfReliance with ₹7,280 Cr #REPMManufacturingScheme The Government of India’s approval of the ₹7,280 crore Scheme for Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnets (#REPM) marks a transformative moment for the country’s high-tech #Electronics and #SemiconductorEcosystem. For the first time, India will establish an integrated REPM manufacturing chain covering oxides, metals, alloys, and finished magnets, addressing a core #StrategicGap in the nation’s technology infrastructure. Recently, India and countries went thru disruption of supply of #CriticalMinerals and #PermanentMagnets. Rare earth permanent magnets are fundamental building blocks for #EVs, #RenewableEnergySystems, #Aerospace, #Defense, #ConsumerElectronics, and, importantly, the semiconductor equipment and electronics manufacturing ecosystem. Establishing India’s first integrated REPM manufacturing ecosystem initiative enhances #SupplyChainResilience, reduces import reliance, and supports rapidly rising domestic demand, which is growing rapidly.
