Every once in a while, a story from our emerging tech clusters reminds me that Karnataka’s next big breakthroughs are quietly being built far beyond our big cities. Recently, a young team from Shivamogga caught my attention as they solved a problem every Indian hospital quietly struggles with: paperwork stealing time away from patient care. Akshay V Nayak and Karthik B S came up with the idea after observing nurses spending more time shuffling papers and doctors losing hours to files, forms, and discharge summaries. Those observations made it clear that the problem wasn’t lack of technology but the lack of technology that fit India’s realities. So instead of forcing hospitals to adopt Western EMRs that don’t match Indian workflows, they built DScribe - an AI tool that lets clinicians write naturally on a tablet while everything gets digitised in the background. Simple, intuitive, and deeply relevant. And the impact is clear: - 16 lakh paper sheets digitised so far - 15 hospitals onboarded across Shivamogga, Davanagere, Bengaluru, Chitradurga, and Haveri - AI-powered discharge summaries reduce delays and save clinicians hours - Lower costs, faster coordination, and reduced paper waste for hospitals This is why I want more people to pay attention to what’s happening in places like Shivamogga, Davanagere, Chitradurga, and Haveri. I strongly believe that when we nurture local ecosystems, talent will emerge from every corner of Karnataka. The Anvesana Innovation & Entrepreneurial Forum in Shivamogga has played a key role in supporting these founders.
