Building #chips is exciting, but building our own #hardware is pure thrill. As someone who has spent years in CAD, VLSI, Physical Design, and STA — nothing compares to the feeling of holding something you built from scratch. VLSI System Design (VSD) is now ready with another lot of 500 #VSDSquadron #FM (FPGA Mini) boards — all set to be shipped to the top 500 participants of the “#RISC-V on #FPGA for #High #School” program, powered under the Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) initiative and implemented jointly with Agastya International Foundation. We’re genuinely amazed to see 8th to 12th standard students designing and testing their own tiny RISC-V processors using these boards. All they needed was a small push — and thanks to Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) for being the torchbearer and trusting VSD to turn this into a nationwide hands-on semiconductor movement. What an inspiring inauguration for the #India #RISC-V #Tapeout #Program. This marks a historic step in creating India’s largest online academic tapeout initiative, with more than 3500 participants coming together to design, verify, and build silicon in a truly collaborative effort. Dr. Rajat Moona, Director of Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar , set the tone with a bold and courageous call to action—urging the community to embrace this challenge as a way of building a national framework for chip design talent. His message reflected the vision of scaling India’s semiconductor workforce to global standards. Samir Patell highlighted the unwavering dedication of the India Semiconductor Missionn and its role in shaping India’s self-reliant journey in semiconductors. His words reminded everyone that this is not just a program, but part of a larger national movement. And it was truly special to see Mohamed Kassemm, known for his pioneering work at Efabless Corporation and now leading efforts at ChipFoundry, back with us. For many, he represents the #return of an #opensource #prodigy whose contributions have unlocked opportunities for students and startups worldwide.
