To protect cooperative banks from mounting cyber threats, the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSC Bank) has launched India’s first cyber-security operation centre (C-SOC), named Sahakar Suraksha, in Vashi, Navi Mumbai. Built at a cost of ₹50 crore, the facility aims to provide real-time threat detection and 24/7 protection to 31 district central cooperative banks across Maharashtra, completely free of charge. MSC Bank Chairman Vidyadhar Anaskar said the initiative was essential as cyberattacks on cooperative banks have crossed 10 lakh in recent years, with one incident alone causing losses of ₹50 crore. Most rural and cooperative banks lack the resources to build their own cyber defence systems, prompting MSC Bank to step in with a shared infrastructure solution. Staffed by 35 trained professionals and powered by an AI-driven platform, the C-SOC is already proving its value. It recently helped prevent a major breach at a bank in Sindhudurg. Along with surveillance, MSC Bank will also provide cyber hygiene training to boost sector-wide awareness.
